Gift for 10 year old DD

My daughter's birthday is coming up soon and I have grandparents, other relatives, and friends asking for gift ideas. She has come up with a few ideas but does not have much on her list. Does anybody have any good gift ideas? Any price points are fine since we have a wide range of people asking. She does have a rainbow loom which I know is the hot gift right now...is there anything else out there? This age is so hard to shop for, imo!

Is she a reader? My daughters list is heavy into books. She just turned fourteen, but that was about the age she would have a ton of books on her list.

That was also the age for American Girl - thank God for the easy gifting of "you buy the green dress for Kit and Aunt Jen will buy the pink one."

She is a reader but we tend to check most books out of the library or order the occasional books from Scholastic. As far as American Girl goes, she does enjoy playing with them but we just had a teenage relative clean out her AG collection and gave dolls, clothes, accessories to my DD. So for now I feel like we are bursting at the seams with AG.

She got Taylor Swift concert tickets, outfits for her AG dolls, a new soccer backpack, soccer ball and shorts for soccer games, Under Armour headbands, Vera Bradley backpack, clothes, nail polish, earrings...

You might think of setting her up an Amazon wish list. This is what we did for our 4 and 5 year old boys. My husband's family is in the UK so it makes it easy for them to pick something for birthdays and Christmas. Of course we have the password and login. We pick items that vary in pricing so everyone can afford something and update it several times a year. We also let them help decide on adding new items (mostly legos and books).

It has been great and even my parents and sometimes we use it as well. we always tell people it is just ideas they don't have to get something off of the list but it really helps my in-laws and sometimes our friends a lot when they can see the types of things our boys like.

As a side note, my DD has an iPod touch but we still do not allow Facebook or Instagram. We just do not allow her to install those apps. My personal opinion is that she is still too emotionally immature for social media. We will try to hold off until middle school!

Our DD10's b-day is right before Christmas, and we always have a tough time coming up with gifts for her. Here are some ideas:

A Rainbow Loom and bands (this is big here right now but might be on its way out)

Gift cards for craft store/clothing store

"beauty" products (age appropriate - nail polish, lip balm, shower gel, etc.)

GC for a jewelry making class or painting class (both are around here)

Books (my DD just finished "Wonder" which I read too - highly recommend)

Things related to a sport she does (our DD figure skates - skates, clothes, etc)

Our DD is adopted, so we are getting her a kit from 23andme (or a similar place) so she can learn more about her ancestry. Other kids might like this too.

A new bike/skateboard/scooter/roller blades, etc.

A phone for emergencies only/times she is out without you (like a sleepover). We have a phone (pay by the minute type thing - I think it's a Tracphone) that we make her take when she rides her bike or goes somewhere where we'd like to be able to call her/she can call us. She isn't allowed to keep it or use it to call friends. It stays in a cabinet in the kitchen for when we want her to have it.

Glad someone else brought this up. I get so irritated when I get requests from family/friends kids that are younger and really do not need to be on facebook. What happened to kids enjoying being kids.

My DD10's birthday is two weeks after Christmas, so we are in the same boat! She is still asking for AG and Lego Friends, although I know a few of her friends are starting to "outgrow" them.


She loves jewelry and craft kits, scented lotion, books, and anything to do with horses. She doesn't really enjoy clothing shopping. She LOVES to read, but I can't keep up with what she's read. I don't buy books unless she specifically asks for them. I think the Amazon wish list is a great idea!

DD just turned 10 last week. Among her gifts were:

craft sets...the rainbow loom among them and she loves it
sharpie markers
clothes from Justice (the store all the girls around here love)
Target gift cards
Furby Boom (interacts with an Ipad app)
books

She would also have liked some more Lego Friends, Itunes gift card, anything having to do with crafts. She loves bookstore gift cards, but she reads constantly so most of her books are from the library.

edited to add: how could I forget Duct Tape? DD got some set of patterned tape in dispensers as well as some individual rolls. There are lots of brands out there now that are not as heavy duty as real duct tape, but the real stuff is desired also.

if she likes to read, and you use the library you might check to see if they have an e-book lending service. we ended up getting dh a nook because it was compatable with our library's system of lending. you don't have to get the fancy ones, the black and whites work fine. this can open up a new answer to those who ask what to get her as a gift-a barnes and noble gift card to buy new e-books.

Does she have her ears pierced? This was the age where we allowed both DDs to get their ears pierced. They got earrings and jewelry boxes that year for their birthdays.

Monsters University is coming out on Oct 29th. Not sure if that is too late but you can always pre-order it from Amazon or Disney and give her a cute certificate on her bday saying that it is on its way

DD also loves baking so for her birthday we got her a cake pan shaped like a cupcake, then went to the supermarket and got cake mix, icing, sprinkles, candles etc etc She loved it!

DD is into drawing and painting so we are getting her a watercolor set for Christmas (along with everything else I mentioned )

If she likes crafts, American Girl craft kits are nice...possibly a little young, so choose carefully.
Nice editions of classic books--Barnes and Noble does these in nice bindings for around $10. Our D used the library a LOT, but enjoyed her "keeping" books. Some of them have gone up to college with her.
Gift card to parent approved clothing store (Old Navy, Justice, etc).
Does she like to cook...specialty cookbooks and baking items (ie cupcake cookbook, with muffin tins, liners). Apron sized for her, in a fun print.
