can I use gift cards when I check out of the hotel to pay for the meals and/or shopping that I charged back to the room?

But, be sure you do this the night before you check-out.

Excellent point, you don't want to use express check out and applying the gift cards to your folio balance can be done anytime prior to your check out day.

We stoped every other day and paid our charges with our gift cards and the night before we left
It was also nice as the print out the desk gave us showed our meal credits left

I use gift cards as much as possible in the world. I buy them discounted at Sam's club and then use them for meals with TIW. Every $$ helps.

FYI for anyone who reads this: you can now combine gift cards up to 1,000 each. No more taking a huge stack of 50 dollar gift cards to the front desk and see the look of horror in the CM eyes but a smile still on their face as you approach.

Target is great with 5% if you have the debit or credit carx

Don't forget there is also a limit that you can put on your room charge before they will charge the credit card on your reservation. It used to be $1500 for deluxe resorts but I think that might have changed recently. So if you think that on day 4 of your trip that you are nearing the "$1500" mark just go down to the desk and apply some gift cards to your room charge.

Sam's sells 150 of GC for 143 (3 50 dollar cards). Not huge but every dollar counts. I use these alot for TS and combine w/ my TIW to max the discount.

Just out of curiosity...can you put gift cards on your account before you charge anything?
I always do this on a Disney Cruise and it makes it so much easier.

No. Or, rather, it's against policy now. While it might be technically possible, the front desk won't do it.

There is another thread on Dis about this... I got 12% off on my purchase of $1500 worth of Disney Gift Cards. I saved $180.78. Using gift cards to pay my DVC membership fees in Dec.

Best way is to stack the discounts by buying Target eGift cards, which I did on both Raise and Card Pool. Then use them with the Target RedCard as your default payment method on Target.com. I saved 7% on Raise/CardPool and 5% with Target. Since they have a $300 transaction limit. I bought 3 x $100 Disney Gift Cards a pop and repeated on separate days. I could have put in 5 orders on same day. You just get a brown thin mailer for each order.

My next WDW trip will buy Disney gift cards this way to save 12% !!!
