On previous trips, I have always went to the front desk to lay down my balance using gift cards before my credit card was charged. In researching for my January trip, I found this response on the Disney mom’s panel page:

Is there a way you can load a gift card to the Disney app to pay for food? I don't want to stand in line, but I don't want my food charged to credit card.”
Here’s a little background on how it works. Any charges made with your MagicBand go back to your Disney Resort hotel bill. After your stay, those charges go directly to the credit card on file. You can call a Resort Reservation Cast Member at (407) 939-1936before your visit and tell them you’d like to add a Disney Gift Card to your Disney Resort hotel bill. At first, the gift card will act as a credit on your account and that credit will be used toward any purchases made with your MagicBand or any other charges made to your room.

After you’ve exhausted your gift card amount, any additional charges will be put on the credit card you have on file.

Has anyone tried this? I’d much rather preload the cards.

I’ve never heard of this process, and if it did work in the past I don’t believe it will now. To charge with your MB, one must have a credit or debit card on the resort account. Within the past year WDW started doing a pre-authorization hold before check-in and my understanding is that there is no way to avoid the initial $100 hold if you want charging privileges. You are welcome to pay down charges with a gift card each evening, but the hold(s) will still be placed on the credit/debit card.

Enjoy your vacation!

Gift cards are not credit/debit cards, so what they posted on that other site is incorrect. The number on a gift card will likely bounce if you try to provide it as a credit/debit card. There is also no way I know of to queue up gift cards on your account with the idea to use a credit/debit card once those funds have run out.

You can't pre-load money onto your account. If you want to use gift cards to pay off your room charges, go to the front desk daily and use a gift card to pay them off.

Correct.

But because of the way mobile ordering works, you cannot charge it to your room and you cannot use gift cards in place of a credit/debit card to allow mobile ordering. As much as it would be a great time saver for those of us who use Disney Gift Cards to budget for dining in the parks, it's not allowable on the current mobile ordering system.
