Gift card question

Many people have suggested buying Disney gift cards to help save for their trips. Do they expire or have a "if you don't use it we charge you a few dollars a month after a while" charge? I can't imagine Disney would do that, but you never know!

Thanks!

I hear of people doing this, but it doesn't make any sense to me. Why not just save the money in a regular bank account, or am I missing something?

I think a lot of people do this so the money saved is specifically earmarked for Disney and cannot be spent on just anything. Or sometimes there are additional incentives with the gift cards themselves. I got some of the Sam's Disney gift cards last year because of the extra $10 toward the Disney store. This year they have the vinylmation pins instead of the additional gift card. Just a little something extra for spending your money with Disney!

Because if I say, "I am going to set $100 aside for a Disney trip" it somehow works its way back into the budget. It just happens!
On the other hand, if i buy $100 gift card each paycheck, it can only go to Disney.
Plus the incentive thing... Last year I had $90 in Disney Store gift cards earned by the gift cards i bought for our hotel stay.
