Gift card problem

We purchased a couple $500 gift cards at our local BJ's.I called WDW to make our final payment (room only). I was going to use the gift cards towards the payment.
When I pulled the sticker off on the back it lifted the account number off of the card. So, now I can't use the card. I can only read the first 3 numbers.
This gift card is made of a card-stock material, not plastic. A thin layer of the card-stock pealed off with the sticker.
I tried calling the gift card number and WDW with no luck
 
No clue how to help after the fact. For future reference, I always scratch the silver part off gently with a coin - never pull it off.
 
This card is different. It's a black sticker, not your typical silver material that you scratch off
 
I'm going to try to return it to BJ's. We'll see what happens. It's a hassle, we're leaving tomorrow morning
 

Is the number maybe on your receipt? They give you a receipt when they activate it, I'd think it would have some identifying numbers.
 
If you can read the EAN, you can use a barcode scanner app on the phone to get the account number.

Alternatively, you can email Disney gift card services. If you can provide the receipt with the time and store and as much info about the gift cards as possible they've been able to help me in the past.
 
Always scratch any cards that are not hard plastic. Some have had success by trying to lay the torn part back down and scratching. Hope you get it sorted out.
 
A lot of people have the same issue with the paper ones they have switched to. These aren't peel off and can only be scratched, several others have reported some success with attempting to stick the peel off back down and then gently scratching off the covering going only in 1 direction while holding the panel down as best they could.

Black can be scratch material too. Unless it specifically says PEEL (like Amazon gift cards), it's a scratch situation. This is especially true of the new cardboard gift cards. We have now had countless reports of people who have accidently peeled off the numbers.

What now?
  • Scan app for barcodes as mentioned above. I forget the exact one people have used but I'm sure you can find one. It will scan the barcode and give you the account number. It will not give you the EAN.
  • Do you still have the portion you peeled off? You can try to put it on a piece of paper and scratch it and see if the numbers are still there
  • Use in person by scanning the barcode or swiping the mag strip

We had a similar experience. Had a $100 gift card that came in a thick paper packaging, like most gift cards you purchase from the store. When we unpackaged it, the bar code was ripped off. Turns out some Disney gift cards are made of a cheap paper material instead of plastic. Very low quality.

Disney needs to fix this issue.
I've heard many people say this has happened.
I had it happen last year with one I got as a birthday gift.
I ended up just not doing anything about it but did feel bad I couldn't use it.
Spending that much on it yeah I'd go back to BJ's and get my money back as its a defective item.

HIGHLY unadvisable. Repeated attempts- especially at the EAN will trigger Disney to lock the gift card on suspicion of fraud. Literally the last thing OP needs.
 
You have to email Disney gift card.com and include the gift card information. I was concerned with emailing the information but they fixed the issue. You should call Disney gift card.com to make sure this is still the way to handle. We had the same issue about a year ago.
