Gift Card ??/Dining plan

This is the first trip to Disneyland in almost 20 years. We were going to get the dining plan (we always get it at the world), but after reading about it decided to put the $$ on a gift card and use it as if it was a dining plan. Can you use the gift card everywhere including downtown disney and snack carts etc? I also was thinking that I could do room charging and then pay with the gift cards if that will work better do more places let you charge back to the room?

The restaurants in Downtown Disney don't accept them.

Regarding gift cards, they are accepted in the World of Disney Store, and at Marcelines Confectionery. And at Disneyland, they are accepted widely. I used my gift cards for pop corn, churros, Cherry Coke, Bengal B B Q, The Golden Horseshoe, pretzels, water etc at the outdoor vendor near the Jungle Cruise, and at the Blue Bayou. I dined there for my birthday. There is a Disney site, that covers information about their gift cards. I will look for it.

Have a wonderful visit, and enjoy your gift cards, they really are very handy. And you can re-load them on Main Street, at the various Disney shops. Also at Disney stores.

I had forgotten to add that you can also use them to buy a Dole Whip or Float. Again, pretty much everywhere at Disneyland. Make sure to read the Disney Gift Card link that is above. It will tell you exactly where you may use them. And if in doubt, just call Disney Guest Services, or if it pertains to dining, call Disney Dining instead.
By the way......no, they are not accepted at The Uva Bar and Café.

Yes, gift cards work where credit cards do so almost everywhere including the carts. But roaming people like the balloon vendors and some night glow stick carts are cash only. But that is a very small amount of places that won't accept them so you really shouldn't worry about it unless you want that Mickey balloon and want it now!

You should make sure their gift card machine (at the cart) works, though before ordering. There have been a few times where the machine hasn't worked - when I wanted a Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Sandwich!

Funny you said that because today we tried to use our gift card to get Mickey ice cream and it wasn't working either. So we just used cash. Must be something wrong with it's location, maybe not a good signal

Yes, it is always good to have cash as a back up. I fortunately, did not have any issues with my gift cards. Thank goodness.

Weird, the website says they do not work at carts and outside vending.

Well they do for churros, pop corn, and dole whips.... maybe that is for free standing vendors, such as people that are selling balloons, they cannot accept them. There are some vendors that cannot accept them, because they are not Disney owned businesses. Such as the Crystal Shop, amongst others. It is possible that the CM's that sell the glow light up merchandise cannot accept them as well. But I do not know that for certain, but they are at carts, so maybe, maybe not.

Only place I've come across that I couldn't use a GC was a cash-only glow-sword vendor in Cali Adventure near Screamin', and I'd already told my then-DS2 he could have it so we managed to find the cash between all the adults' pockets. Think she had a rolling cart, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some of the other glow-ey vendors in New Orleans Square have CC/GC machines. Wish the States were more like Europe where everybody has handheld CC acceptors. In a few years we'll get there ...
