Gift card and Disney Dollars

I have always been allowed to do this, but I've heard other have not. You'll have to call you local DS and ask.

Good luck,

Lori

I was allowed to do it once and my local Disney Store will not let me do it anymore.

Eller, What store are you shopping at, it might be worth a drive south!

I've done it at both Bellview Square and Northgate Malls. I've also done it at the Independence Mall in Kansas City MO. (We have family there.) The times that I've done it have been from the pre-order the DVD/Video, spend $50 and get at $10 gift card. And every time, I've changed the gift card to Disney Dollars right then and there.

Good luck! If you go to Bellview Square ask for Lance; he always seems to know what's going on. If you go to Alderwood Mall, I'd just ask for the manager and if s/he is no help, have them call the Bellview store manager. Lance is one and I can't remember the other person's name. Who knows it's been a month or so since I pre-ordered Lilo and Stitch; Disney could have changed policy (again)! LOL!

No, the gift card cannot be used to purchase Disney Dollars, sorry! It is is the Standard Operating Procedures. You can, however, use your gift card to purchase park tickets, which was not allowed previously.

Gift cards may be used on Disney.com, the catalog and in The Disney Stores, but not at the parks. So, if you know someone who is going to the parks, make sure to purchase Disney Dollars instead of the Gift Cards, if you plan on giving them "Disney type" spending money for their trip.

Also note that Disney Dollars cannot be returned for cash without an original receipt.

I have purchased disney dollars 3x this fall with gift cards at our local TDS.

I've redeemed several gift cards for Disney Dollars with no problems!!!

When I was at the BWV on 12/2-12/9.....I was shopping in the General Store on bw and some mom with a very small child was trying to use her (Disney store) gift cards there....NO WAY CM told her not for use there....we used Disney Dollars about everywhere.....brought a few home and will use on Oct. trip.....

I just went to our local disney store and purchased disney dollars with my gift card. I had read very carefully on the back to see if they were excluded, I did have one that listed them as excluded, but this one did not exclude them. So the CM at the store said I couldn't purchase the disney dollarsbut I said that it does not exclude them. She read the back and said ok she will try and lo and behold it took it. So if it does not specifically exclude them on the back then go for it and don't give in.

I could not purchase Disney Dollars with the Disney Gift Card. We also could not use the Disney Gift Card in World of Disney in WDW, which was a real bummer for my kids because they had gotten them for Xmas gifts & then could not use them.

The reason why the gift cards cannot be used at WDW is that the Disney store is a completely separate operating division.

The easiest way to explain it: Pepsi owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Yep, they're all the same company but different divisions. It's probably confusing because all of Disney's divisions (except Buena Vista) have Disney in their names. The catalog/online is separate from the Disney Store, and WDW is separate.

The World of Disney is not a Disney Store.

The best thing to do when purchasing a gift for someone going to WDW is to give Disney Dollars. I've gotten in the habit of finding out where people are honeymooning, and if it's WDW, they get Disney Dollars instead of a check.
