Gideon’s question

How has getting into Gideon’s been working lately? I’ll be down next week, and I’d really like to check it out and pick up a couple cookies, but I gather it’s not as simple as ”show up, buy cookies, enjoy”

On the slower times, you just line up. On busier days, you do a virtual queue, they text you when it is your "turn" and then you line up. They let only 2-3 groups in at a time. We were really disappointed in our food. We got the chocolate cake with caramel icing and the icing was grainy and crazy sweet. I love sugar, but even I could not eat it. Also, the cookies were old. I am a baker and worked 15 years baking cookies at a local place and so I know when a cookie is old. The ones they gave us were from the day before. Do not recommend.

Really? I'm shocked they had anything left over from the day before to sell the next day.

I think I’d rather eat cookies from anywhere else than wait 3 hours. They look good though.

We went a few days ago, got in a virtual que and ate at raglan road. They texted as soon as we were done eating. After tip, we paid $45 for 6 cookies.....they were pretty good but not worth that kind of money in my opinion lol

I am sure that they are over baking because they don't really know what demand is going to be like. I have not heard of them running out so it makes sense that they have leftovers. We tried one day to get in the queue and as I was talking to the employee and she was telling me that there were not allowing anyone else to queue that day, a guy walking by told my daughter that if you show up right before closing, they let you in. My issue is them actually service the old cookies to us, especially at full prices. I think that most people would not know that they are day old. As a baker and professional, that makes me angry.

Though I have heard of them selling out, your point is taken. I'd send a note via FB to the owner. But more importantly, next time, skip Gideon's and head to Kringla Bakery Og Cafe in the Norway pavilion and get their salted pecan triple chocolate chip cookie. It is by miles the superior cookie. DEVINE!

I think if you go to DS on a busy DS day (weekends), the virtual queue will be pretty long. If you go during a week-day and get there late-morning/early afternoon, the virtual queue line probably won't be as long. We went on a Tuesday around noon-ish and our virtual queue wait time was about 45 minutes.

Our cookies were very yummy and we did not have the same issue that @Lilsia reported with getting day-old cookies. This is actually the first report that I've heard of someone getting a day-old cookie. We bought 6 cookies, so we did end up with day-old cookies the next day (and for several days after that! LOL!!!), and I could definitely tell the difference between the fresh ones and the day-old ones. They are by no means horrible when they are a day or two old, but I could definitely tell the difference.

Yeah, I would have skipped them entirely but my daughter wanted to try them. She took one bite out the cake and one out of the cookie and threw the rest away. I should have returned them honestly.

Thank you for the review of the cake. When we tried the cookie 2 years ago (from their East End location through The Polite Pig) I was so excited...but it was a let down. That cookie was SO SWEET. It was like eating a candy bar. Can't believe I'm saying this but it was too many chocolate chips. I wasn't a fan of the half-baked texture of the cookie itself (I know, I know it's intentionally that way). When the new location opened at DS we saw their cake slices and they looked so amazing and impressive but I was wondering if they would be too sweet with the "double icing". I think we will skip them if we go. I'd would like to try the coffee cake cookie though.

Hi Jennasis. While I love the half baked texture I do agree on the too sweet for the chocolate chip one. Our favorites are the Coffee Cake and Peanut Butter ones.

I did the same and tried the chocolate chip cookie through The Polite Pig and was equally disappointed! There were more chocolate chips than there was cookie, and I found it on the salty side. I was not impressed at all.

I wonder if that would really work? I don’t get in until early evening next Wednesday, so I would probably have enough time to make it to Gideon’s by closing, and wouldn’t be wasting any park or pool time.

I've been about 4 times, and usually go to DS, then get in the virtual queue and go have lunch or shop. I did try to get in line one evening, but they weren't letting anyone in line anymore. I'm not sure about going close to closing. I've taken the cookies home and put them in the freezer. Then I defrost one at a time, and enjoy it piece by piece. They are also good microwaved for about 10 seconds.

Also, if you get into the virtual queue, you can get into the line at any time after they text you.

Like others have said, you can get in the virtual queue and it's pretty convenient if you have plans to eat/shop. Otherwise if you go early enough in the morning you can wait in line, before they start the virtual queue (which can change day to day based on how quickly the line fills). We loved the cookies especially the chocolate chip and cookies and creme. The double chocolate was okay. Haven't tried the PB one yet. It's hanging out in our freezer still. Which I will also add - The cookies freeze wonderfully.

The coffee cake cookie is only available before noon, just FYI. Don’t plan to get one if you’re going in the afternoon or evening.
