How fortunate must some people be that the biggest worry in their life is to pick at something so trivial. Many people complain when Disney does not spend enough on things, then when they do something like this, they complain because it is too much. As new members for less than one year, but Disney veterans prior to DVC, the hats, portfolios and this gift have helped make us feel very welcome and special. It is what makes Disney different and why we joined and go back again and again. If you do not like it don't use it. It was mailed with the planner anyway so what was the real incremental cost. Sorry for the rant, but the whole idea of this thread seems silly.

The fact that so many people enjoy the picture makes me appreciate that DVC (or DVD or whomever) made this available.

Thank you for the perspective.

You are right... many people have different takes on the same issue. It seems a bit off to think that this issue is the biggest worry in anyone's life. I think much of the usage of the boards is to vent, praise, complain, give thanks, and get or give advice. So I don't think this thread is silly. Obviously the poll has put to rest any question as to what the general concensus is. It is an interesting graphic. You are the 194th person to give/cast an opinion on this thread. A little negative towards other members, but a welcomed opinion nonetheless. Life would be boring if we all thought the same way.

Very nice gift. Reminds us why we enjoy DVC and Disney. We are shareholders as well and see it as why they (Disney) are so good at what they do -- create magical memories.

It's the thought that counts! :teeth:
I appreciate the thought more than the actual gift. They didn't have to do this, but they did.

Certainly we have received worse stuff from DVC, like the combination backpack/miniduffle we got when we joined. I never did figure out what it was good for, and we've never used it.

Nicely put. We saw someone with that backpack/mini-duffle the other day at Epcot. My wife saw it and pointed it out to me. We could not get it to work for us either -- too big for a backpack and too small for a duffle. But still the thought was appreciated.

A nice surprise and a creative way to say "we appreciate you." It is one of the things that sets it apart form other places one does business with, it is always fun to get something special once in a while.

Well, my first thought was, "They spent our money on this?" and my second was "What am I going to do with it?" But that's before DS saw it, and immediately claimed it for his room.

What's REALLY cute though, is yesterday, he had the print on the floor, leaning against the wall. He was doing a little dance in front of it and singing a song....

You Blue's Clues fans will know what he was attempting to do... He was trying to "skiddo" into the picture.

He was disappointed that it didn't actually work, but he didn't seem too surprised. But he thought he'd give it a shot!

Flame me people.
Go ahead, call me a marshmallow and make s'mores.
Maybe they could send out a letter about an offer so that if we don't want them, we can decline and collectively put the money towards our annual fees... or let the members who do want them buy them.
I don't sell my gifts on ebay because I don't sell presents or regift. But as cute as the giclee is, I won't use it and if it was generic Disney I could give it to a young family member, but it is even too clearly commercial to make sense to the kids in my family.
Honestly, we joined in 98, and the only gift that I truly value is the 9/11 pin. It was unexpected and not linked to a sale promotion. It was a real gift.
Keep your license plate frame, your giclee (cool box though) keep all of that stuff, or let me opt out.

I don't think we members pay for those items, except postage. I think they are paid for by DVD Marketing.

I don't care who pays for them.
Let me opt out.
I know the spirit is positive, but they are marketing tools.
I throw away the annual "get your family and friends to buy in" stuff, too. If I decide to bring my family and friends, and I do, I don't want to profit from it. I wouldn't pressure anyone that way. It makes me uncomfortable. Remember the pryamid scheme? It bothers me. I enjoy sharing. I won't sell.
I learned of DVC through Southern Living Magazine back in 1998.
Let me opt out.
Put the money you would have used to mail my tell a friend stuff and my free promotional gifts and buy another advertisement if that is what you can do with it.
Whatever way you look at it, whoever it is from, I don't want it. Let me opt out.

I wouldn't "pressure" anyone to purchase DVC, either. But, I have had freinds/family ask my about DVC, so I do refer them (although no one has purchased, and I don't care either way). When I refer them it is for THEIR benefit as some promos let them get a discount with a referral. Here in TX, as in almost half the states, the DVC owner can not get a referral reward. I throw away the cards, too, but I certainly don't get upset about it nor do I want to opt-out of receiving the literature, I can always dispose of the stuff I don't want in the trash can, just like all the other "junk mail."

We've seen some "I don't use ( pools, tv, Disney transportation, etc ) so why should I have to pay for them" threads before. The answer is always that we have all purchased a time share and the mechanics of timeshares dictate that services and offerings must appeal to a broad spectrum of people. If having absolute control over expenses is of prime importance, then a timeshare purchase, and especially a Disney timeshare purchase, probably isn't the best choice of vacation properties.

So, with all respect, I guess I don't see the funding/mailing of giclee prints as much of an issue in the overall scheme of DVC things.

wonder how many of us go to WDW and say to ourselves. "gee, I would like to bring a glicee home as a souvenir"? How many of us would bring THAT glicee home as a souvenir.

Now how many of us buy coffee mugs or hats or shirts or pins?

I like the kind idea. However, i have no use for the pic, no where to put it and feel bad Disney wasted money on it. Maybe, it would have been more interesting if it was less cartoonish and maybe if it was just my home resort? maybe that would have done more for me :confused3

Anyways, they could have sent me flowers in my room next trip and had a better positive note for me

i vote waste of money, even if it is a sweet idea

Of course it isn't the largest component of expense sheet. And I said before, that I think the gifts are sent in a positive light. I am glad you all enjoy them. I just thought the the idea of saying "thanks, but no thanks" would be a lovely option. Just today another solicitation arrived, via Fedex. Nice boxes, nice postcards, and I will feel guilty about throwing them out, but that is what will happen. Maybe that is my problem, the guilt I feel about throwing it all away.
