I'm going on a solo trip in september from Gatwick airport.

I like to stay at an airport hotel the night before so I don't panic about not being on time, but i can't deside which. (don't mind about price but don't like to overpay for cr*p)

Yotel- I like the idea of staying right in the terminal and its easy to find as i've stayed before it was OKish (and would like to try the double room) free wi-fi so could use it on my phone for internet and apps, cheepest even for double BUT last time I stayed it was warm, the aircon noisy and usless, no phone reception and little tv reception.

Hilton- still in south termnal, has actual windows:rotfl:,probably better tv and phone reception BUT have read that its quite tatty for the money you pay, a long walk fron terminal and to rooms and service is poor.

Softel=hear the rep and rooms are better, easer to find and more central to the termnal that hilton, BUT its in the wrong termnal so that means having to get across with two suitcases and hand luggage (have no idea how hard or easy that is)

HELP (I don't drive so staying off site is not at all easy as would have to get the hotel suttle both ways :scared1:)

I've only ever stayed at the Hilton, out of those three, but not sure where you are flying from and probably never at the one you refer to. If you had asked me to pick from a list of those three I would have chosen Hilton, but ...

based on what you have posted I would go with Yotel. Please note that I have no experience to back this up but looking at your list of priorities, proximity would possibly be a winner and free wi-fi is better than TV in a hotel anyway :goodvibes

i agree....just based on what was written, i would go with the yotel...
or hilton...
definitely not the sofitel - the idea of switching terminals with lots of luggage makes me break out in hives...

When it was just the 2 of us we preferred the Sofitel. Rooms are really nice and some have great views over the airport so you can watch the planes coming and going. Some of the rooms do have view into the atrium which is not the best.

We now tend to stay at the Hilton as the family rooms are usually cheaper. Rooms are fine for one night and breakfast is yummy! Views are hit and miss at the Hilton and if you get the wrong room the rooms can be very dark.

Never stayed at the Yotel.

In your situation - and based on your preference - I would go with the Yotel.
I have stayed in the one at Schipol a number of times and have always found them comfortable, convenient + clean and for a fraction of the cost of other hotels. Plus the proximatey to the airport is a major draw.
I also remember on one occasion having to suffer a noisy aircon unit, but it was only once so it might have just been the room your were in that was the problem. It wasn't too much of an issue for me as I always tend to sleep with ear plugs in when I am in a 'public' place such as hotels. Is that an option for you maybe?

Don't let the fact that the Sofitel is in a different terminal worry you, it's very easy to get between the two terminals.
I prefer the Sofitel to the Hilton, but we've never stayed in the Yotel.
