GF - which building to request (with infant & senior)?

Hello, We are booking two Garden View rooms at GF - Room 1 will be DW, me, DD4, and an infant (6-month), Room 2 is for my parents (close to 70). We prefer a building in the centralized location, but away from monorail noise. If it has been recently refurbished, it would be a plus.

Any suggestions?

All the buildings are very central at the GF and really the longest walk between two points is about 6 or 7 minutes at a leisurely pace. The closest building that the monorail comes to is Sago Cay. You can request a room overlooking the marina (still considered garden) and you wouldn't notice any noise at all. I've never stayed in a room that overlooked the monorail, but I haven't once heard that noise was an issue. You may actually experience more noise from Boca Chica, which has garden rooms overlooking the courtyard pool. Big Pine Key may be the best option for you. It's close to the beach, both pools and the main building. Sago Cay and Conch Key may be a few extra minutes walk, but they are the quietest buildings.

This is kind of a fun site, to help understand how the GF is setup. You can zoom in and get some great detail. If you match it up with the printed resort map, you'll be able to figure out which building is which and decide the best location to request.

Tammi. I agree with this statement but when I was at the GF earlier this month, I paid careful attention to garden room views. IMO, Big Pine has the fewest number of desirable garden views, especially on the 1st and 2nd floors - lots of opportunities to look at pool buildings and roofs. Definitely request a high floor if deciding on Big Pine.

You're absolutely right. It's not my favorite building at all, but seems to fit the centralized request of the OP. A high floor is a good request, but isn't the 4th floor the former smoking rooms? Since the renovation took out bedding and curtains, I wonder if you can still notice any odor.

Thank you. I will try to request Sago Cay or Big Pine Key. Wanted to be closer to Monorails.

Which were the smoking buildings?

Big Pine was the smoking building.

Just want to ask - Will ALL GF Buildings be renovated by Mar 2008?

Yes. A recent GF visitor was told Sago (the last building to be renovated) will be started the week after Thanksgiving and will take 6 weeks.
