GF - Standard Room - good or bad ?

GF - the pool looks decent - nice water slide - open through rocks, water fall, and seating availabilty does not look bad.

Rooms have the daybed - a must for our family.

If I could snag an AP rate for a STANDARD ROOM - how good/bad is the view ?

From the map of the GF - it looks like most rooms have a view of water, pool, or beach.
Would a Standard room be a view of the Monorail ?

Do all rooms in the GF have a balcony ?

We have a BC ressie now - but maybe being on the monorail would be a plus.

The CR pool does not look exciting. The Poly pool looks good - but my DS & DD do not like pool slides which get dark inside - ie Volcano/red lights pool slide at the Poly.

That leaves us with the GF.
My DH does like the GF staircase and 1900 Park Faire for dinner.
But we never stayed at the GF.

What are your thoughts ?

My sister and I stayed in a GV room last year and really enjoyed it. We were in Boca Chica (I'm pretty sure - you wouldn't think I'd forget something like that) and our room looked over what I guess is called the "quiet pool" - not the pool with the slide. We were there in December and it was about 35 degrees for most of our stay so we were never in the pools.

We had a full balcony and were right across the way from the main building. We really, really liked the GF!

WE will be staying three nights for the first time at the GF in Dec. I am also concerned about the standard gv room b/c it will be five of us in one room. Should I ugrade to a larger room? What are my choices and if they offer ap discounts, will the larger rooms also be discounted?

This is the first time we're staying in a lv room. We've always stayed in a standard gv room before and we were always happy. We always requested Sago Cay marina view and it's lovely. I always say its the next best thing to a lagoon view for a lower price. It's very peaceful and relaxing and the marina is a great view to look at from your balcony. Have fun.

The lagoon view rooms are no larger than the garden view. Do not think twice about going with a standard (garden) view! I've stayed in all different kinds of rooms at the GF and one of my favorites was a garden view room in Boca Chica (my favorite building!) because it looked out at the "quiet" pool and the Main Building which is especially beautiful at night with all the tiny white lights!
Your room will have a full balcony.
The rooms are beautiful and the resort is gorgeous! The pools are nice and I believe the waterslide is completely open; might be enclosed for a minute but completely different from the Poly slide Believe me, your kids will be in heaven! And so will you!

We stayed in a lagoon view (Conch Key) dormer room and absolutely loved the GF. However, as neat as it was to be able to see the castle change colors at night, we told ourselves we would probably not pay for lagoon view again because the landscaping was so beautiful around the resort we would be more than happy with a garden view. Keep in mind that the dormer rooms have no daybed, a smaller balcony, but a higher ceiling. I'm told the rooms are a little smaller but it seemed very large with the high ceiling and extra floor space where the daybed would have been. I'm sure with a party of five they would probably assign a room with the daybed. We had a great stay at the GF--very relaxing and the service was excellent. The only drawback I can think of, is that the parking is quite a hike from the rooms, however, this also makes the views from the rooms so much better.

If you want a larger room, but not a suite, we had a lagoon view room in Boca Chita as well. We had a corner room - ours was on the third floor, but I assume it would be the same on all four floors - room 8345. As I said, it is a corner room, but has more space. I can't really explain it other than to say there is more "general space" than a regular room. The other plus is two balconies - one that overlooks the lagoon and Wilderness Lodge - and the other that overlooks the MK - you could see the monorail, the castle, Space Mountain - everything.

So...if you are willing to spend a little extra for that lagoon view and wish to request that room and hope that you will get it, I say go for it...the only down side is...no guarantees!

Just a thought, though!

What about concierge rooms? Are they the same size as a gv room? just curious. I like the idea of the corner room with two balconies! This trip is for our 10th anniversary so maybe a request would carry a little more weight? espcially traveling with 2 adults, 2dds and 1ds19! That's really three adults (he is 6 foot 4!)

I can't tell you anything about concierge, but we have friends who stayed in a Lodge Tower room and said it had a nice sitting area--I think someone posted pictures of one if you do a search.

Standard concierge rooms are the same exact size as regular rooms. They do have a larger deluxe concierge that's about 200 more square feet, but they only have occupancy for 4 guests over the age of 3. The same goes for the lodge tower rooms. These are also bigger, with a separate sitting area and 2nd tv, but only occupy 4 guests over the age of 3.

We're a family of 5 that includes 2 adults, 2 teens (including our own 19 year old) and an 8 year old. We have always been extremely comfortable in a standard size room. All the views are wonderful and you will not get a parking lot or roof top view. Garden can include the monorail, marina, courtyard and pool. Lagoon can be looking off towards the Poly with Spaceship Earth in the distance or might have a view of the Castle.

It's a much different atmosphere than the BC area. Here you will feel like you're at a secluded resort, where at the BC, I think it's much more lively and you have the whole Boardwalk area to explore. Just depends on what in particular you're looking for on this vacation.

I stayed in Boca Chica last year and I don't think there could be a single bad view from that building! Either you're looking at the lagoon or the main building and pool, and either view is wonderful.

It's a great location. We were in a king room with a sleeper pullout, worked great for the four of us, plus it seemed to make the room lasrger to me. I don't think that there is a bad view available in that building. We had a view of Space Mountain, the castle and the train station from our balcony. Oh yeah, it was also a free upgrade.
