We will be staying at the GF for the first time this year, and have booked a garden view room. What building is best to request for close proximity and easy access to transportation (mainly the monorail, but also the boat)? We will have two toddlers and a double stroller.

The GF isn't as spread out as it seems so while some buildings are closer to the main areas than others, none of them are far away. With that said, my favorite outer buildings are Boca Chica and Big Pine Key. Both buildings overlook the courtyard pool and are just steps away from the main building, while Sago and Conch Key are on the other side, closer to Gasparillas and the boat dock; however, it doesn't take but a few minutes to walk to the monorail/building from the farthest part of the resort, IMO.

I would think about what is important to you for room location and requests. As mickeynut1 mentioned the resort is fairly compact. However, the monorail, bus stop and boat dock are all located in different areas so it will be impossible to be near all transportation.

Will you be using the pool a lot ? Do you want a certain view, no connecting door, corner room etc. Think about what you actually want in a room and then request that. I often suggest to just request what you want, "near monorail" etc. It gives the room assignor something to go on other than just a building.

As mickeynut1 mentioned Big Pine Key is often requested for proximity to the main building and pool but you will be farther from the bus stop and QS location. So, back to my think about what you want and what services you will use most often.

Thank you both, that is great advice! We will be requesting a connecting room to my parents room for extra help with the kiddos so I think maybe we will just leave that as our only request. It makes me feel better to know that the resort is more compact than it seems.

You're welcome. Have a great trip and enjoy the GF :wizard:.

Everything is only a short walk, so you should be fine no matter what building you get. We stayed at Boca Chica once and Big Pine Key one (with adjoining room for the grandparents), and both were wonderful. Have a great trip!

I had a dormer room in Big Pine Key and loved it! I had a balcony facing the pool.

Big Pine and Boca Chica are our favorite buildings

We requested Big Pine Key for its proximity to the main building, and it was perfect. The resort is definitely more compact than it seems on the map, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay in Conch Key or Boca Chica. Sago would be my last choice, but even that is not too far. Enjoy the Grand Floridian - it's wonderful!
