We ar staying here end of august some friends of mine just got back and they said it felt stuffy there and when her kids made any noise ( not excessive) the cm's and other patrons had that annoyed look. She said the resort didn't feel very welcoming to families. Anyone have any positive family experiences she has got me concerned.:sad1:

It is a GREAT resort for families! My DH and I have stayed there 3 times - our last time there was with our two kids ages 2 and 4. They loved the resort and being so close to MK. There is a kids sized waiting area in the lobby that is so cute - little chairs and all.

Here are some more pics of my kids at the GF.

My DD loved our room service breakfast!

I will definitely stay there again with my kids. I think we're planning to stay there next summer....

Hope this helps!

I agree with the OP about the GF being kid friendly. We stayed there a couple of months ago and the cm's were great with the kids. I wouldn't call it stuffy, I would call it classy. But since your still in Disney World, they go out of their way to make the kids feel welcome. I would definitely stay there again with the kids. Good luck.

I did not have that exerience at all. Yes, GF looks fancy, looks victorian, but it is a disney resort and the decor is a theme. I did not find any higher standards of behavior at GF than I did at AKL, although my kids did like AKL more.

It consistently amazes me that people make this comment about the GF. If it's so NON-kid friendly, how come the best kids' programs are at this particular resort????? Alice in Wonderland Tea Party, Grand Adventures in Cooking, My Perfectly Princess Tea Party, Cinderella & Prince and mice at 1900 Park Faire along with Mary Poppins! If that's not a draw for kids, I don't know what is. I've stayed at the GF countless times. Of course it's kid-friendly!!I'ts DISNEY. The Magic Kingdom is a monorail stop away. Maybe the people were frowning at your friends' kids because they were...shall we say...naughty?:rolleyes1

We stay at the GF as much as possible, lol - concierge in the main building a few times a year with our family of 5. Concierge isn't even stuffy! I can't imagine people feeling the place is stuffy. :confused3 I think a lot of people that think that bring it on themselves. The GF is a WONDERFUL resort and very friendly and family oriented. Kids are welcome and expected - it's Disney. The CMs have been fabulous to my girls - they have been treated like princesses there. :wizard:

We have been going to WDW several times a year consistently since 1990 (I went prior, but since 1990 when our first child was born, we have gone OFTEN, lol) and have stayed at almost all the deluxes. GF wins by a mile over the other WDW resorts for everything - services, friendliness, location, pools, decor (it is NOT stuffy - wicker and mixxy matchy fabrics and cozy furniture :goodvibes ) CMs are awesome......it's the best at Disney. LOVE that place.

Can't wait to get back to the GF for Thanksgiving!

Anyone have any positive family experiences...

Nikky luvs mickey, I have stayed in all of Disney's on-site resorts (Value, Moderate, Deluxe, Home-Away-From-Home, and even a cabin at the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds). The Grand Floridian is my family's favorite resort, bar none. My daughter loves all of the children's activities (cooking class, tea party {both of them}, pirates cruise, & kids club). I love the swimming pools and the pool slide: click here. My family always feels completely at home whenever we're there. It's our nirvana.

I hope you have a wonderful time at the Grand Floridian.

Glad to hear all the positive reviews perhaps her kids were being bad and she was embarassed. thanks people

I agree with the other posts....we've stayed there three times and the CM's always went out of their way to make the kids feel special. I can't say that about some of the other resorts.

We love it! DD is now 4 and we stayed there when she was 2. She loves it too! We go there every vacation to eat at least twice, and we never have felt the stuffy vibe! We are returning this fall as my ticker states!

another GF lover here! I dont find the GF stuffy at all. I found many of the guests more snotty than the staff, LOL. I am off to the GF in 12 days concierge again and am looking forward to it. I stayed there last NOV concierge and the room was wonderful, the bed comnfortable and the snacks and food were great. My DS 8 is alittle nervous about staying there but since we are concierge again hes willing to give it a try.

I've heard comments like your friends' before, and I really don't understand them. If the GF were the least bit stuffy, I wouldn't like it at all, and I wouldn't have stayed there as many times as I have. It's a comfortable, relaxed place to stay.

The GF seems to intimidate some people. I guess it's the fact that it's expensive, or the formal decor. I've read comments on this board like "I'm afraid we won't fit in" , or that people at the GF "knew they didn't belong there" and were staring at them, or even worrying that they're not physically attractive enough to stay there.

Folks, it's not Buckingham Palace! It's just a hotel. Next to a theme park with people walking around in big furry animal costumes. Men walk through the lobby in Goofy hats. How "stuffy" can it be?

I think some of these folks bring their self-consciousness with them to the GF, and in their discomfort, feel like others are staring at them. Personally, when I'm there, I don't really notice the other guests, and I don't think anyone else does either.

What I've found is that most of the negative comments on the GF usually come from people who have NEVER stayed there.

BINGO!!!

If anything, it's like another poster commented that you might find a couple guests with their noses up in the air looking down at everyone else. There might be more of this kind of guest at the GF than other resorts because of the elitists that feel they're displaying their value by staying in Disney's flagship resort (they bought into Disney's marketing)and can't fathom how someone of a lesser fiscal class could afford to be staying at the same place they are. But those experiences are few and far between. I've never felt that from the staff at all.

My experince was that the CMs had that "annoyed" look any time they had to deal with a guest..... so don't let bother you.

(I stayed there so at least ONE negative post about the GF has come from a poster with experience at the hotel. IMHO it's overpriced and overhyped and I won't pay to stay there again)
