We arrived at the GF on my birthday, as part of our honeymoon trip.

We had spent the day at AK, the day before at MK, and the day before that at EPCOT....so we were pretty tired on arrival, anxious to unpack and settle into our room.

It was 4:00 when we pulled up to the curb and were met by someone from the concierge staff.

I was very impressed and a little overwhelmed by the attention as we were escorted up to the concierge desk to check in.

We were greeted by the news that our request for a king size bed had been met.

I was a bit surprised, because we learned after the room was booked, that the deluxe concierge rooms in the main building only came with two queen beds. We didn't request a honeymoom room with a king bed, which was what we received.

I asked, to be sure the price was the same, since the stay was a wedding gift from my parents. I was assured that the upgrade was free of charge.

I was feeling pretty good at that point.

THEN, we arrived at "our" room. When the door was opened, we saw clothes everywhere...the room was obviously still occupied.

I almost cried when we were told there wasn't another room available for our entire stay.

We were given a room for that night, and told we would have to move to the honeymoon room the next morning.

At that point I started calling it the Grand Fiasco.

We had driven down from NY, and had already been living out of our suitcases for 5 days. I just wanted to unpack.

It was my birthday and it was NOT turning out to be magical.

But once we were in the temporary room.....we started to fall in love with the place.

Just opening the door, I knew this place was different. The door was HEAVY, a nice solid door.

The room was beautiful.

AND, we had a straight view of Cinderella's castle.

We were afraid to move to the honeymoon room because we assumed there could not be another view as good as the one we had the first night.

But we were wrong!

The second room had almost the same view, only we were more at eye level with the castle.

I didn't want to leave to go watch the evening parade and fireworks at MK, but after a delicious meal in the concierge lounge we caught the monorail over.

What a wonderful thing that was. A few steps to the monorail and off we went.

And after the fireworks? We had to stand on the monorail, but we had virtually no wait to get back to the hotel. It was great!

The GF was purely magical. We didn't leave again to visit the parks even though we have days left on our PHs.

The best part of the "grand fiasco" of our room being occupied....was we were able to eat at 1900 Park Fare.

I had asked for a PS from the concierge before we left home and was told they were booked for that night.

When the mix up over the room was going on, the CM asked if he could arrange dinner for us during our stay to compensate.

Sure enough, he got us the time we wanted, on the night we wanted at Park Fare. And the GF paid for it!

Better yet, he sent down a note to let them know I was celebrating my BD.

After we ate, the CM brought out a cupcake with a candle and a mickey chocolate , and a crown!!! It was great.

I can't say enough good things about the GF.

I laugh now when I recall saying to my husband on that first night, "let's just go back to the Days Inn"!! LOL

I'm so glad you ended up having a magical time!!
The Grand Floridian is my favorite resort. It's the first resort we stayed at many years ago and remains my favorite to this day.

It's great that they made things right for you...and the charms of the GF were not lost on you!

That's a great story! Admittedly my heart sank when I saw your subject title. I just spent three wonderful days at the GF and couldn't imagine how the hotel could have disappointed you. Having made that awful mistake about your room it behooved the concierge staff to atone for it, and I'm so happy they did in such a grand fashion.

How was the rest of your stay?

Glad it worked out for you. GF is indeed a Magical Resort!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

The rest of our stay was incredible.

We enjoyed breakfast each morning in the concierge lounge before heading to the pool.

We had a favorite cabana. The view was gorgeous, and I love the sound of the waterfall.

We walked over to the Polynesian each day, past the wedding pavilion. I lost count of how many weddings we saw in the short time we were there.

They don't really put out lunch in the lounge since the resort is so quiet during park hours. We were able to supplement what they had with some peanut butter I had packed.

The evening offering were more than enough for a meal, and the desserts later were absolutely out of this world.

I enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the boats on the lagoon, the people below at the G. Grill, and especially watching the castle turn colors at night!

We sat in the lounge and the hotel lobby to listen to the music, I shopped a bit....and we loved dining with the characters at Park Fare.

I think Suzy Mouse was flirting with my husband! lol

We'll never forget our stay at GF, I think I'm spoiled for life.

We loved the speaker for the tv in the vanity area. DH could listen to the news and weather while he was shaving in the morning.

I loved the jacuzzi tub. After swimming late at night in the 24 pool, it was a bit chilly. I filled up the tub and had a nice hot soak.

We loved leaving our wet pool towels at the pool, and having warm dry towels waiting for us each time we went to the pool.

Even the elevators were beautiful. They just don't miss a detail.

Our digital photos should be posted in a day or two, I'll be sure to share them with anyone interested.

I'd love to see them since that is the type of room we have requested and that is where we will be for our honeymoon. Please let me know about pics.

Wow! What a great story :) I'm so glad that everything worked out for you ... I can't wait to see your pictures!

Oh my gosh! I almost didn't read your post but I am glad I did. I just booked GF today and am so excited. We are just doing Garden view and requested Big Pine Key to be near the pool. It is my DD 27, Me and my mom. So us girls decided to live it up. It has been a dream for me and my DD . I got flight miles that we cashed in for 2 first class tickets April 6-13. So I decided if we start first class, might as well go all out. Just have to save more. I am so glad you liked it, it seems that not alot is posted about this resort but I really think we will love it. We want to do something special for my mom and my DD said , let's spoil Grandma like she has spoiled us all these years. Congratulations on your wedding too!

I was worried in the beginning too. Sounds like a beautiful honeymoon.

So, what were those room numbers? I'd like to know where the perfect views are!

Looking forward to the pictures. Thanks for posting this :)

Great story...I almost didn't read it, too.

What great memories you made!

I'm glad you enjoyed the GF.

Are the Cabana's rentals or is it first come, first serve?

Thanks,

Lori

The cabanas were "early bird gets the cabana".

The pool opened at 10:00 am, and we got there at 20 of in order to get our favorite one.

There were four, and they filled up right away.

There was a jack by each, if you brought along your computer. We didn't.

There was more than enough lounge chairs around the pool area for everyone, but they were in direct sun. The cabanas were wonderful since they provided shade.

And a wonderful view of the pool and lagoon.

We never found the pool to be over crowded as most people spent their days in the parks.

I, too, was worried when I read your title :p . I am so happy your stay was magical. . .What a wonderful experience for your B-Day AND your honeymoon. I can't wait to see your pictures ::yes:: !

:wave2:

You were lucky.
My experience at the GF was the Grand Fiasco and I will never return.

Now normally I give places a second chance, but not at those rates.

A hotel that holds itself to the standard Disney tries to hold GF to should NEVER have even sent you to an occupied room.

I'm so excited for you and for us too! We are doing the exact same thing that you did at the GF and I haven't heard very much about the deluxe rooms!

Thanks for the awesome review!

Could you tell me exactly, to the best of your memory, what they had for offerings in the lounge?

Thanks for the information!:mickeybar
