We arrived at the GF on my birthday, as part of our honeymoon trip.
We had spent the day at AK, the day before at MK, and the day before that at EPCOT....so we were pretty tired on arrival, anxious to unpack and settle into our room.
It was 4:00 when we pulled up to the curb and were met by someone from the concierge staff.
I was very impressed and a little overwhelmed by the attention as we were escorted up to the concierge desk to check in.
We were greeted by the news that our request for a king size bed had been met.
I was a bit surprised, because we learned after the room was booked, that the deluxe concierge rooms in the main building only came with two queen beds. We didn't request a honeymoom room with a king bed, which was what we received.
I asked, to be sure the price was the same, since the stay was a wedding gift from my parents. I was assured that the upgrade was free of charge.
I was feeling pretty good at that point.
THEN, we arrived at "our" room. When the door was opened, we saw clothes everywhere...the room was obviously still occupied.
I almost cried when we were told there wasn't another room available for our entire stay.
We were given a room for that night, and told we would have to move to the honeymoon room the next morning.
At that point I started calling it the Grand Fiasco.
We had driven down from NY, and had already been living out of our suitcases for 5 days. I just wanted to unpack.
It was my birthday and it was NOT turning out to be magical.
But once we were in the temporary room.....we started to fall in love with the place.
Just opening the door, I knew this place was different. The door was HEAVY, a nice solid door.
The room was beautiful.
AND, we had a straight view of Cinderella's castle.
We were afraid to move to the honeymoon room because we assumed there could not be another view as good as the one we had the first night.
But we were wrong!
The second room had almost the same view, only we were more at eye level with the castle.
I didn't want to leave to go watch the evening parade and fireworks at MK, but after a delicious meal in the concierge lounge we caught the monorail over.
What a wonderful thing that was. A few steps to the monorail and off we went.
And after the fireworks? We had to stand on the monorail, but we had virtually no wait to get back to the hotel. It was great!
The GF was purely magical. We didn't leave again to visit the parks even though we have days left on our PHs.
The best part of the "grand fiasco" of our room being occupied....was we were able to eat at 1900 Park Fare.
I had asked for a PS from the concierge before we left home and was told they were booked for that night.
When the mix up over the room was going on, the CM asked if he could arrange dinner for us during our stay to compensate.
Sure enough, he got us the time we wanted, on the night we wanted at Park Fare. And the GF paid for it!
Better yet, he sent down a note to let them know I was celebrating my BD.
After we ate, the CM brought out a cupcake with a candle and a mickey chocolate , and a crown!!! It was great.
I can't say enough good things about the GF.
I laugh now when I recall saying to my husband on that first night, "let's just go back to the Days Inn"!! LOL
