I read about it also, on Allearsnet.com. Since I am staying there in late Oct., I was a bit concerned at first. I assume the Summerhouse offerings will be similar to GG (at least, that's what I'm hoping!)

The Summerhouse was a take out ice cream place when we were just there. The only tables were those on the patio. If this is true, I'm not sure how they would set it up to be more like a restaurant.
As someone else mentioned, I read this in the Allearsnet newsletter. It didn't say why. I think I'm going to call GF tomorrow and see what the deal is. I hope they will offer more than ice cream at the Summerhouse. I'm looking for mug refills and quick snacks/breakfasts.
Don't want to tell DH. He's watchig to see if we should cancel because of all the hurricanes. He'll be mad to hear we can't grab a quick meal at the GF.
Anyone know when the Grand Floridian Cafe opens for breakfast?
We just got back from the GF last night. This is true - Gasparilla is closed for rehab until November. They have a sign out front saying you can join them at Summerhouse. This change was unexpected and very unappreciated as we purchased length of stay mugs the day before Gasparilla closed. We were eventually refunded the price of the mug, but you could go to Summerhouse, show your mug, and get a 12 ounce can. That's just not the same as a fountain drink in my book and Summerhouse has limited hours.
Summerhouse has been stocked up in an attempt to compensate for the loss of Gasparilla, but falls far short.
What we ended up doing for breakfasts was walking over to Poly to eat at Kona Cafe - great food and reasonable prices.
