Travel agent called yesturday to tell me she had disney on the line. They wanted to know since i requested the boca chica building on my reservation did i want to pay 303.57 for a theme park view in the boca chica building. i thought this was odd if i wanted to upgrade i would have done so when i put in the request for the building. Does disney normally do this? I hope since i didn't want to pay for it they won't stick me in some other ickky section now.
(P.S. I placed this request 3 months ago why would they be calling me now? My ressie isn't until aug.30th)

I'm guessing that you have a lagoon view room booked. Perhaps they don't have lagoon view rooms available in that building and thought, if you requested it specifically, maybe you would want to upgrade to an available theme park view in order to get your request. I'm not sure if all the rooms in Boca Chica that overlook the lagoon also have some sort of theme park view. That building may be limited to garden and theme park views only, but I'm not positive.

Or it could be purely for business reasons. Many guests are being moved (at no additional charge) from the AKL due to construction and perhaps the GF is running out of the lower priced room categories. If they can get current guests to pay for an upgrade now, they probably won't lose as much money.

Sounds like this is something that's being done at the reservations level though and really doesn't have anything to do with GF concierge. I just realized that you were the same poster that asked about DCL, is this part of the land/sea package? If so, that may be the reason for the call. Typically a room can't be upgraded when you're on the package, but it sounds like they saw your request and offered you that option.

Maybe it is to do with the refurb in GF and as you have requested Boca Chica, maybe that will be being refitted when you are there, so they would be putting you elsewhere?

Usually buildings are requests only, no guarantees. It does seem odd that you would be called and that's why I brought up the DCL factor. That may have more to do with the upgrade offer. Well that and the combination of AKL guests being relocated.

First of all, I'm shocked that they would call you at home and bypass your TA. I realize they talked with them first, but still, I thought this was a big no-no in the travel field. Secondly, did you actually talk to them and ask what it was about or did they leave a message with a call back number? The situation is getting a little weirder by the minute. Honestly, I'd be a little concerned that this is a scam and not Disney calling at all. Just someone who may have hacked into a computer, possibly the TA's and gotten some of your information. Maybe now they're phishing for credit card info by offering a bogus upgrade. You may want to investigate this a bit further. Please keep us posted, this is great intrigue on a cloudy day.

O.K. SCARED ME NOW. THEY GOT MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER I WAS NOT HOME AND I CALLED DCL WHEN I GOT BACK THEY SAID THEY ONLY CALLED THE TA THE OTHER DAY NOT ME THAT THEY KNOW OF. THIS IS GETTING CREEPY NOW.

Sorry, didn't mean to upset or scare you, but the more details you were reporting, the more red flags I was seeing. If you called back DCL and they confirmed that they talked to your TA, then maybe it is legit, strange but legit. Hopefully the rest of your vacation plans are uneventful.

I have my fingers crossed that they were just trying to get me to pay for what they are planning on giving me anyway for free when i get there due to the akl renovations.
