We are going to be camping in Gettysburg at the end of July. Dh really wants to do a "ghost tour". I found a walking candelight Ghost Tour. Has anyone done any of the ghost tours in Gettysburg and would you recommend it or avoid it? TIA :)

My wife and daughter did this several years ago and were disappointed. You don't actually go inside any of the houses on the tour. You just walk around Gettysburg and the tourguide points out which houses are allegedly haunted.

I'm glad that I didn't tag along (although I'm sure that it was a nice walk).

we did one last year and it was just "okay". wont bother doing it again. you dont get to go inside and it seemed like we spent too much time listening to the stories and didnt get to actually "see" many haunted places.

I picked the shortest tour to maybe make a ressie with. It's w/ this company:

I'm going to relay this to dh and see what he wants to do. He's been looking forward to this.

You'll be about 30-45 minutes from me while you're in Gettysburg. Here's a ghost tour that is local to me. I've never been, but it seems pretty interesting. We're Maryland's "most haunted city". :lmao:

We did the Ghosts of Gettysburg tour (the shorter one) back in 1999. I already had all the books so I was familiar with all the stories. If nothing else, it is a neat way to take note of some of the older buildings in Gettysburg since you generally go on foot to parts of town that are off the main roads (granted you don't go inside, but...).

We go to Gettysburg frequently and know of some of the great local "haunts" if you will. If you need any more info, I'd be happy to help.

A distant relative of mine haunts your city, Barbara Fritchie. No clue how we are related, just remember hearing about it as a child. I also remember my grandmother telling me ghost stories about an old bridge. I can't remember what it was called, but there was a large Jug by it. I might have to look into that tour someday. :thumbsup2

To the OP, I have taken both the walking tour of Gettysburg & the story time in the basement of the Farnsworth Inn. I enjoyed both of them. :)

Tell her I said thanks for the grub! http://pages.frederick.com/dining/fritchie.htm :lmao:

There's a seafood restaurant, popular for it's all you can eat Steamed Crabs, called Jug Bridge seafood. Perhaps near there? I'm not sure. I have a book somewhere called something like "Ghosts and Legends of Frederick County" that I"m sure has it in there. May have to look for it this upcoming weekend!

We go to gettysburg at least once a year. We've never done the ghost tour but we always do the horse drawn carriage. They take you around the town and point out some of the historical homes. It's nice and relaxing. We find it very interesting.

I'll tell her tonight! :lmao:

That sounds like the bridge. There are supposed to be a lot of bodies in that bridge!

I have done the Mark Nesbitt tour twice (ghostsofgettysburg link). Different each time. I really enjoyed it and they really make you wonder what is out there. Be careful though, the neighborhood just behind the building where it starts is a bit rough. Park on the main street, not the back alleyway.

Have fun,
Karen

i don't know how i missed this thread.

i posted on one of the other gettysburg threads before i went to gettysburg in april of this year.

we took 2 of the tours and thought it was great.

also bought 7 of the books.

i'll have to come back to this thread later and reread the posts.
maybe we could compare notes on our tours?
