Getting your photos "Out There"

I added this to my previous post, with no returns, so I wanted to try it in a new thread....

Can anyone guide me to a place online where I can submit my photos as candidates for publication???

If you want to sell stock I would start with iStockphoto. If you are successful there you can move right into a contract with Getty.

If you're more of a photo journalist you will find a several news sites are accepting submissions from the public. The most interesting one I have seen is a partnership between Rueters and Yahoo called "You Witnes News."

Another route would be write your own story and present it to the local paper. You can't just call them and ask for an assignment but you can come up with your own and try to sell it to them. The smaller the paper the better.

most of the photography magazines also run contests, you might try entering some of them.
