Getting Your Christmas On - UPDATES??

Thank goodness gifts have been done and wrapped for a few weeks, baking is complete and some of the cooking is done and just needs warming. I'm the only one with the day off tomorrow and I have family arriving at 6 for dinner. The dining room is already set, most of the house has been cleaned. I'll be doing some prep work tonight and cooking tomorrow, including the mostaccioli sauce for Christmas Day.

Schedules are so tight this year that I'm cutting corners with most of my appetizers so we can pull off hosting both Eve and Day. I dread coming home from work on Thursday to what I expect will be sizeable cleanup to boot. Just crossing my fingers none of us gets taken out by the heavy cold younger daughter has been fighting.

I have everything wrapped and under the tree. Stocking are filled and hung by the TV with care. Food for my family Christmas dinner on Saturday has been purchased. The only thing I need to do is go buy desserts on Friday for our dinner on Saturday.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas day we go to DBF's parent's house so I have nothing to do for that except make mashed potatoes for Christmas dinner.

I am super excited. DGS2 is going to be so fun this year. He already tried to open presents when I had him this weekend. He started opening one and said "I see what's inside.". Um no, not yet Jack! lol

To update - we still don't have a tree! Or any Christmas decorations taken out. It's all been overcome by events this year (my sister and I closed on a house last Thursday, had a family wedding to go to this weekend, my mom had the whole living room torn up to re-paint last week, etc).
 As my DS says "...sometimes it just do be like that." I hope you have very Merry Christmas anyway.

Yesterday I did all the wrapping, all the baking and then cleaned like a crazed maniac in the evening. I was still vacuuming when DH brought our company home from the airport at 10:30 pm. :faint: Enough of that for now though - today we're day-tripping to Banff!

Thanks. Now my sister texted me at work that our nearly 15 year old dog is sick suddenly, can't walk and tipping to one side. We have a vet coming by to check her out later today. She does have a history of ear infections and vertigo, so hopefully it's something simple like that and she'll recover.

We had my dog to the vet yesterday afternoon and she thinks it is just vestibular disease (common in old dogs, usually clears up on its own in a few days). She's seen a few cases lately, possibly due to the changes in pressure. She's not up and walking around yet, but she has perked up a little bit more this morning.

Merry Christmas Eve!

I still do not have a thing wrapped, as I sit here peacefully drinking my coffee 😂.

I have a cake to make this morning. And two pies. And we are supposed to go to MILs for gumbo. We already did Christmas with that side of the family but gumbo is a tradition. Dh has been on the road and missed so much this year so I can’t take this away too and he won’t go without me. He doesn’t even eat gumbo but I know that’s not really the point. So we shall go. And I will get it all done and have a great day tomorrow and then sleep on the 26th 😂

Not sure how I got started so early with the shopping and am still running ragged in these last few days. But here we are!

Guess I could have gotten more done the last couple of days but I spent it with my granddaughters making candy and gingerbread houses. Watching Christmas movies and playing games. And wouldn’t trade that for all the wrapped presents in the world!

We finally decorated our tree at 2:00 pm yesterday afternoon (Christmas Eve). It had been up with the lights on it for at least 2 weeks. That was the last thing I had to do besides the Christmas Day meal cooking (cinnamon rolls, link sausage, fruit and mimosas for breakfast; appetizers, rolls, salad, shrimp & grits, chocolate pudding cake & ice cream for dinner).

The gifts are opened. My loves’ bellies are full, and their hearts are happy! My job is done. Now I’m going to sleep for a week.

OK - that went well! I hope yours did too. I've got a crap-ton of mess to clean up today, probably while the rest of the household is out Boxing Day shopping. It's our version of Black Friday and wild horses couldn't drag me out into that mess today. :p Our guests fly out tonight and I'm off work until Monday. Plenty of time - on second thought maybe I'll nap this afternoon instead of tackling housework. :goodvibes

Among others, I bought both the Kirkland American vodka and Kirkland French vodka. Google it and decide for yourself.

Take it easy today! It’s still a holiday.
I’m having a 2nd cup of coffee and relaxing

I slept until 11:00!!! But that’s not as lazy as it sounds. I went to bed at 11:00 PM, woke up at 2:00 AM and couldn’t sleep, so I got up and cleaned the kitchen and put away all the dishes. Didn’t go back to bed until after 4:00 AM. Now I’m going to tackle the mess around the Christmas tree in the living room. After that I’ll hit the pool table room where we wrap everything. It looks like a wrapping paper glitter bomb has gone off up there.

Luckily we have plenty of left overs, so I won’t need to cook for a few days! Yay!!!

:thumbsup2 Yep - around here today it's eat left-overs, eat cereal, fill up on candy from your stocking, eat or don't eat - I don't care!! :goodvibes

Our’s went really well! Everyone loved their gifts. I have got to learn to stop worrying so much!

Sil got a Harry Potter trivia game and the adults had a ball playing till late last night. The kids were all happy with their big gift and the craft kit I got each one. They were all having a ball with their stuff while we played.

The kids helped pick up around the tree before they left and so today I am spending the day on the couch. It’s my Dec 26 tradition! No work just, rest. I have tried shopping the after Christmas sales on the 26th. Threw off my whole holiday! So now I just do nothing.

Well I just got done with 5 days of various family events! All went great but this is CHILL day! :cat:

Hope everyone had a wonder Christmas. :santa:

............and now on to planning my huge New Year's Day bash! party:

We had a fabulous Christmas Day. Everything went off without a hitch and the gifts were all a hit. We opened presents, snacked, napped, stayed in our pajamas, and the whole day was very relaxed. We were so enjoying lounging and watching our son play with his new toys that we decided to skip the big dinner in favor of sandwiches and ramen. :rotfl: We’d been snacking all day and just weren’t feeling it, so the elaborate meal got pushed off until today.

My son woke up sick this morning so I tended to him and tried to create some order out of the living room toy explosion while my husband got the meal ready. We just ate about an hour ago and are back to couch surfing. The kiddo seems to be perking up and if he feels better tomorrow we’ll go see the light display at the botanical gardens tomorrow night.

Hopefully you'll have a milder night than we did when we went out to a local Festival of Lights on Christmas Eve. :cold: Merry (belated) Christmas and I'm curious to hear how one "Greeks-up" ramen? ;)

By walking past a fridge full of Greek food on your way to the cabinet where the noodles are kept. Merry Christmas to you, too!
