I don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but for the third visit in a row on the day of check out the phone mysteriously rings around 8:00 a.m. and wakes us up and when we answer it no one is on the other end! Finally got fed up and called the front desk and let them know about it, and of course they ask what my room # was and they said let me check and yada yada yada they have no record of anyone calling that room!!! Can they even check on something like that? My guess is housekeeping but they will never admit it! So from now on all phones in the room WILL be unplugged from the wall the night before our departure and then housekeeping can plug them back in the next day!!! ;)

Which resort is this? We have never had that happen at OKW.

:lmao: be careful you don't miss your flight. :thumbsup2

We have been members for over 13 years with more than 40 DVC trips and have never had one of these calls. Maybe it's because I always leave my mousekeeping tip on the T&T day. Or we have just been lucky!!! :thumbsup2

Like BillPA, we've been members a long time, and have had almost 40 DVC trips. Never had one of those call. We've always stayed at OKW.

I've had these calls in the past, but not recently. They really need to come up with a system that goes with express checkout, like you call the front desk when you leave the room. That way housekeeping would know what rooms are ready to be cleaned.

3-4 years ago, there were several people who posted on this board about the "mystery call" early in the morning of the check out day. Some reported them as early as 6:30 - 7:00!!

Always the same thing...no answer on the other end when the guest answered the phone.

I haven't seen much of this reported lately, and assumed it had been stopped.

We experienced the mystery call two times (once each in 2002 and 2003) but haven't had one lately. Of course, we're up by then anyway and getting ready to leave so it could come after we leave.

We always tell the front desk when we have vacated our room since we know that mousekeeping wants to get in there quickly and clean the room.

We got those calls in August on the morning of our check out from BCV. It never occured to me that it was housekeeping. I just thought someone was playing games and cranking us. We got 4 or 5 calls starting around 8:00 am.

We were at HH last week. The envelope we received for express checkout requested we call a certain # when we departed, thus alerting housekeeping they could access the room. I have never seen this at WDW.

That's terrible! However, we probably are never asleep at 8AM, so it wouldn't bother us as much as you, but those earlier ones would catch us.

Past reports have suggested it's mostly AT OKW. We've never had it either but enough have reported it to convince me it happens and it's someone in housekeeping. I doubt it's an official tactic, more likely someone who wants to get started and get finished and has learned through the grapevine that this tactic works. I wonder if the system can tell where call came from that were internal, I might have to find out if it happened to me.

well, sounds like that's the bad news - on the other side, the good news would be that it wasn't Stitch on the other end to greet your new day!

bring back the Mickey wake-up call!
:goodvibes

Nope never had it happen to us either. Without proof I would not accuse anyone.

This happened to us at OKW on our day of checkout as well (Aug 17) ! It was around 8'ish too.......our flight wasn't until 3 pm, so we had wanted to sleep in. My dh suspects it may be mousekeeping checking to see if anyone answers----that way they know we haven't left the room yet ? Other than that, can't explain why the phone would ring once like that.

We have had it happen many times but not since we started putting the do not disturb sign on the door the night before. We have always called on our way out the door to let them know we are leaving but I think they have a list of who is leaving and they have no idea who is still there and who has left so they just start calling till they find some empty rooms.

Tom-just curious, did you have ME. I wonder if this has helped since they now know everyone's flight times.

It could have been worse, they could have asked if your refrigarator was running or if you had sir walter (or whatever) in a can.

This mystery call has happened to us too but I honestly cannot remember if it was at DVC or at one of the moderates we stayed at over Christmas. We also just chalked it up to mousekeeping.

This is what we experienced at VB in April too.

:rotfl2: Does that take me back to my youth!! :rotfl2:

I have had this happen both at OKW and BWV several times. I always have the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, but I got the calls anyway. So, now I just make it a practice to disconnect the phones the night before checkout AND put the DND sign on the door. At HH, last summer, I had the sign out and the phone off the hook, so the housekeeper actually knocked on my door at 9AM to ask if I needed anything.... I said, "for what?" She said, "Can I assist you with checking out?" I answered, "uh, no, I think I know how to check out" Good grief! I don't even use check out! They just hang the print out of the bill on the door! I think all the calls and knocks are housekeeping just trying to move us on out so they can clean earlier. I absolutely think the front desk knows what's going on too.
