I was wondering what the best way to get to Wilderness Lodge is from the Fort. We requested a non preferred pet loop (1500-1900 I believe).

Can we ride our bikes on the path to get there, and if so, are there bike racks at the Lodge ??

Can we take the golf cart and park it somewhere near the beginning of the path that leads to the Lodge ??

There is a small cart parking lot across from the Settlement bus stop and adjacent to the path. If you are taking the cart, however, I would suggest parking at the lot by Pioneer Hall or the Marina and taking the boat to WL. By bike, you can take the path, but I know of no bike racks at WL. We usually end up leaving them parked next to the railings by the walkway to the Villas or to the side entrance to WL. You can lock them to the railings if you like.

You can either:

Walk from your loop to the WL

Bus to the Settlement, walk from there

Take the golf cart to the Settlement, walk from there

I am not sure on bike racks for personal use at the WL - they may have them, I don't remember. But you can bike the path to the WL.

There is also a bus that goes to the WL. Or a boat, from the marina. :)

I have 3 FW walks on my site, two of them go through the campground and to the WL: http://www.denisesfitnessblog.com/disney/?pg=2

Part II actually goes on the walk to the WL (in photos). Swamp Walk and deer photos on that same path are here: http://www.denisesfitnessblog.com/disney/

We are working on getting a new site set up to make it more organized.:)

Thanks...I love the photos.

Where is the settlement on the map of FW ??

Do you know distance wise how far it is from the settlement to the Lodge ?? I'm just wondering if the kids can handle it. We have the DDP and will probably be going to the Lodge for our lunches on the days we are at the campground.

I'm guessing about a half mile for the length of the path from the Settlement to WL. The Settlement area is the whole area by the Marina that includes Pioneer Hall, TE, Crocketts, the Settlement Trading Post, the Marina, the Petting Zoo, and the Bus Stop. The bus stop is over by the petting zoo.

Hi!

The Settlement is where the Hoop De Doo, Trails End, Marina, etc. are. There are a few main areas - the Outpost (parking lot), Meadows (campfire movie and bike rentals) and then the Settlement. The parking lot is about a one mile walk to the Settlement - maybe just a touch over, and the Wilderness Lodge is about a one mile walk also from the Settlement (or bike ride, etc.). It's about 20 minutes on my non-fast-walking legs. :)

But you can get a bus as well - or bike ride, someone mentioned chaining the bike up somewhere at the WL. If you have a long chain, maybe you can find a tree to chain them up to! From the marina, you can take the boat to the WL. There are no shortage of options to get to the WL.

I've seen bikes locked together at the marina bike rental at the WL. They weren't the ones for rent ...so I am assuming they belonged to campground guests who biked over to the Lodge. I would give the marina/bike rental at the Lodge a call and ask if you are able to use the racks there for your bikes. It's been four years since our last visit..so things certainly could have changed.

I would really suggest riding your bike over. DD and I went to grab a bite o eat Thursday night and we saw 9 deer. They were almost not afraid as they just stood there and ate and acted like we weren't there. It's a nice ride and who can't use a little excercise huh! LOL.

The restaurant at FW that is self serve / fast food is a nice change of pace by the way. Not real pricey either.

We often ride our bikes to the Lodge. We just lean them up against one of the little trees and lock them up and enjoy the lodge.
