Getting to the Restaurant

I made a few ADRs at various resorts and I was just wondering what the best way to travel between our hotel(pop) and the other resorts was. I have heard that not all the hotels are connected via bus lines and we aren't planning to rent a car. Also when I made my ADR for Cape May I was advised to give an hour for travel time. Is that REALLY necessary?

You'd probably get better answers if you let us know where your ADR's are, and when you are planning on being at WDW.

You can generally get to any resort from any resort via the bus system, however you may need to transfer at TTC or at DTD. But you could always use the boats or monorail as well... it'll depend on where your going, what time of year, and the time of day..

Post that info and I"m sure you'll get lots of input!

Basically you cannot get from one resort to another directly by bus. You would have to take a bus from Pop to one of the parks or DTD and then catch a different bus to the destination resort. From Pop your best transfer point would generally be MGM.

Yes, you really do need to give yourself an hour for travel time, if you're going to be travelling from Pop to other resorts. You need to use a theme park or Downtown Disney as a transportation hub.

Here's a rundown at what you can do:

Pop to Contemporary: Bus to MK, walk to the Contemporary.
Pop to Polynesian: Bus to MK, resort boat or resort monorail.
Pop to Grand Floridian: Same as Poly.
Pop to Wilderness Lodge: Bus to MK, boat to WL (or bus to WL)

Pop to Yacht Club/Beach Club/Boardwalk/Swan/Dolphin: Don't take Epcot bus! You'll need to enter the park and walk through it, exiting at the International Gateway. There is no transportation to the Epcot resorts from the FRONT of the park.

Instead, I'd take the Disney Studios bus, then boat to the resorts. (The walk is about a mile, along a path near the bus area by the lagoon.)

Pop to any resort: Downtown Disney. It's the last-chance transportation hub if you're travelling after the theme park busses stop running. Downtown Disney is the best way to get back to any resort late at night.

My main concern will be getting to California Grill and Cape May Cafe from POP. The others we can go to directly from the parks. We also wanted to go to the Chip and Dale campfire after Boma's then back to POP. Any ideas? Are we better off hopping on a taxi?

Just wanted to point out that this is outdated information. You could transfer at TTC several years ago, but the resort buses no longer go there. Currently, you'd need to transfer at a theme park or DTD.

Taxi, Taxi, Taxi. I think it is insane to spend an hour getting somewhere it takes a taxi ten minutes. We spend a LOT of money on this vacation and have just a short time there. We spend hours planning how best to maximize our time in the parks and how best to save time in lines and then we spend an hour taking the tortuous routes from resort to resort? An extra ten bucks for a taxi ride is part of the happy part of Disney for me.

I am glad that I stumbled on this thread. The laughing place really helped me out with my little delema. Redbudlover, I am taking your advise on the taxi! thanks.

How would a taxi work with little kids? DO you just seatbelt them in the regular seats? Or do they have taxis with carseats?

I'm a fan of cabs.

Some of the cabs may have carseats in the trunk at WDW, many do not. It is not a legal requirement to carseat your kids in in a car "for hire" in Florida. They won't be belted in on a bus either and may end up standing. If not having carseats is too big a risk factor for you (and I'd completely understand if it was), I think you are better off renting a car and BRINGING YOUR OWN carseats - the one time we rented with little kids we reserved carseats - and they ran out.

Glad to help. I have never spent more than $14 on a taxi at WDW, but even at that it is so much cheaper than renting a car - and I hate being tired and waiting for a bus and traveling all over just to go to a restaurant. I may be spoiled, but that is what WDW is all about for me....

Hi, Mickey2000,

Well that is certainly a good deal and you couldn't spend that and use taxis every day and go outside WDW. I rented a car one year and didn't use it hardly at all until we left, so it was more costly than the ocassional taxi.

But I like staying at an EPCOT resort and walking there and taking a boat to MGM or the boardwalk. An occasional bus is okay but sometimes long. I didn't like having to park so far away from my room and from the parks, but I am really not against cars, they just feel like an inconvenience to me a lot of time. What I am really against is traveling from resort to resort on anything but the monorail or in a taxi. Fortyfive minutes to go to dinner doesn't work for me.

You have the same pattern we do. We don't ENJOY driving at Disney and have had horrible luck with Orlando rentals. We stay at an Epcot resort, so we are really only cabbing a few times during the week - generally resort to resort travel and a few park hops when we are time sensitive or don't want the bother of a bus - probably spend $100 or less for a week of cabs.

Exactly!

I know that your against a car rental.
I always get a car at Disney. I hate to spend extra time on buses or wait in line after a park closes to get back to my resort.
I always find a great deal. This year I have an 10 day rental with Alamo using an Entertainment free day coupon. If you monitor the rental sites rates change.
Mid Size car 3/29 was $270.82 Total all fees and taxes
I re checked tonight and re booked same package for $209.09

For an average of $21 a day I have total freedom to go wherever and whenever quickly, adding more time to my vacation.
I can even leave property to visit outlets, church etc....
