I'm not from the UK but I figured this would be the place to ask. Have any of you gone to the F1 race at Silverstone? Could you go from London on race day? Is there public transportation from London? Any info would be great.

I’ve been to Silverstone in 2009, we came from the North West and camped for the weekend.

It was very busy around the whole of Northampton all over the weekend. I’d say though they do very well in controlling traffic and let it flow as smoothly as possible. I’d say to get from London on race day, you’d have to set off VERY early on the Sunday morning to make sure you get in on time. Also, do you have general admission tickets or an allocated seat? We had general admission tickets last time and we had to be on-site for 05.30am to queue to gain a decent viewing area. I’ve upgraded us for 2011 and we now have seats, which I’m hoping will be less stressful.

Public transport wise, I’d say your only option is train, but that depends how early they run to Northampton? And then working out a route from the station to the track. It’d take some planning. Maybe it’d be advisable to book a hotel for the Saturday evening closer to the event? We camp from the Thursday, right through until the Monday, so I can’t really advise on a solid plan for you to get there via public transport.

Hope that helps though, if you need any more information, please ask :)

I agree with the above, the whole area is heaving on race weekend even more so on race day and if you don't have an allocated seat then you will need to be outside the ground before dawn to get a good spot.

I would say there is no dedicated transport from London (i've never noticed anypackage deals for say ticket & transport, that sort of thing) so unless the trains run very early then you're best of going at lease the day before and staying until Monday.

The atmosphere is amazing when camping so somthing I would def' recommend.

We live near to the Silverstone circuit, we actually really hate race weekends as we have to go through Silverstone to get from our house to the inlaws house which is the other side of the village. Public transport to the village isn't good at all. Silverstone itself is actually just a small Northamptonshire village where public transport is poor. On race weekends they turn the roads into a one way system which is a nightmare! If you really want to make it to race day I would arrive a few days before hand having booked into a local hotel/guest house. If you are in the area getting to the circuit is easy. Extra local busses are run and farmers are willing to give you a lift across their fields on their tractor, for a fee!! lol
