We leave this weekend and we booked our cruise on points and are hoping that just maybe...we can purchase a room upgrade (since we cannot do it via DVC member services)

Does anyone have any tips on how early we can arrive to do this? Do we have to wait to board to be able to do so?

thanks for any tips.

Disney ships usually sell out so upgrading for cash even if allowed may be unavailable.

As of 8/2/11 DCL is adhering to arrival times as assigned to you. If you arrive prior to your assigned time, you may be required to wait outside the Port Building. There is a lengthy thread on this this already. It does greatly affect one's chance of securing an upgrade at the Port, obviously. Good luck..

They can restrict what time you ARRIVE at the PORT or what time you BOARD the SHIP? I didn't know there was an assigned arrival time outside of the generic guidelines of 11 am - 3 pm, for example. I know in the past there has been a wait to get on the ship after you check in, but that would be after upgrade options are checked on. I may have to check out the cruise board and see what's up with that....sounds strange...

To the OP: we upgraded on cash last year for our MR cruise. It certainly is possible. Check the website in the days leading up to your cruise to see if there's cabin availability. If there is, then there is at least a chance. The only thing that may hinder you is having booked on points. I don't know if they'll let you upgrade because of that. We didn't arrive particularly early, but it still worked out for us. We asked when we checked in at the port about upgrades. After our check in was done, they directed us to the upgrades desk and we worked it out there. It is all done in the port before you board.

Port arrival. The new ship is bigger. The port is not.

This is correct. You are restricted to an assigned Port Arrival Time now, as of August 2. Please visit the Cruise Board here on the DIS for all the details on this. Thank you.
