Getting to outlet shops?

I'm staying onsite without a car. I figure I can take a Disney Bus to DTD. I've read that the Orlando Premium outlets has free shuttles from hotels in the DTD area's, has anyone ever taken one of these and knows how it works? I also figure that the DTD area would have a local bus system other then Disney so can you take these shopping or to other places?

I really don't want to do a cab. Would consider renting a car for the day, so I could explore or go to a beach. What's the best way to rent for the day without going back to the airport?

I don't know about a shuttle, but the Downtown Disney-area hotels do have their own bus system; however, the last time I stayed there (and admittedly, I stayed at the now-defunct Courtyard) those buses were for only guests of those hotels, and there were ID cards.

Downtown Disney itself is served by a couple of Lynx bus routes, but while one goes to the Florida Mall, getting to the/an outlet mall would require transferring to a different bus. See golynx.com.

Rental cars available all over the Disney area. Look for "Lake Buena Vista" as the rental location.

Alamo and National both have rental desks at the Dolphin and Disney Car Care Center and they will pick you up and return you to your hotel. If you book online through their sites just click locations on the form and keep narrowing it down to which place in Orlando.

Thanks I'll check the prices of the rental cars out.

Does anyone know about the outlet shuttle?

We go to Disney once a year and always visit the Orlando Premium Outlets at least once during the length of our stay. Like you, we don't bother with a car and we usually stay at Pop Century or Port Orleans, and the cab fare has never been more than $25 each way. Much cheaper than the cost of hiring a vehicle, even for one day, and particularly if you have more than one person to divide the fare between.

Thank you for the information -- we also want to visit some outlet stores -- without renting a car.

Thanks sympatico
I went to Alamo and just put in Disney as my pick up. The Car care center and the Dolphin came up and one for Califorina so be careful. The price was more then I want to spend but it was worth a try. I guess time at the beach is out. More time to shop I guess.

I'm going to call the numbers for shuttles from the links (thanks CR resort fan 4 life) and see if those will work for me.
