So I am considering taking the family on a long weekend this Sept or Oct in order to do Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

I already have a costume theme based on the Haunted Mansion. Three Questions:

1- My costume is inspired by the bride- vintage wedding dress, white hair, painted face, possible white contacts, etc.. Should I worry about being too scary? No blood or anything ...

2- For you who have done it- was it uncomfortable getting on the Disney bus in full costume from your resort to MK? Did you get a lot of funny looks? We love Saratoga but should we consider a monorail resort?

3- Our costumes will have layers so I worry about getting too hot-- would you recommend later in Oct or do you think night time in late Sept would be okay?

It doesn't sound too scary. Remember that almost everyone on the bus with you is also going to MNSSHP, so they won't be giving you funny looks. Worst case, you'll get funny looks at the bus stop. I would be concerned about the heat, too. While it is a little cooler at night, the weather is just a big unknown. I try to pick a costume that is adaptable - something could be removed or added depending on the weather. For instance, if your dress has a petticoat, you could remove it. If it is sleeveless, you might need to add long sleeves under it if it happens to be cold.

Last year the second week in October I had already sweated through my barrier spray by the time we took a pic in Town Square :(. Same week in 2009, we didn't put the kids costumes on until dark, and I stayed in a tshirt and shorts. And same week in 2012, we went as the Rapunzel cast and were still hot, but the massive thunderstorm right at 7:00 kept it bearable. Yes, weather can change day to day, but I'd shoot for later in October if possible. And carry a small fan you can stick up that skirt ;). I'm jealous--I've wanted to do that theme ever since Chasing Fireflies had those costumes. Take tons of pics!!!

I about died in my cinderella dress in mid october 2013. The compliments all night were worth it though.

Could you shorten the dress? Maybe do one of those things where the hem goes up to the knees in the front but full length in the back to help vent it. I'd pick October over September if you're concerned about heat. We're going in September and Im doing queen of hearts but using a tank top and a tutu to make it work in the heat. As long as you don't use fake blood, I don't think it'll be too scary especially with the Haunted Mansion characters that are a part of the Boo to You parade.

Everyone on the bus is dressed up so i wouldn't worry about getting odd looks! Everyone knows where you're going and why you're dressed up! Last time we went the whole bus was packed with all types of interesting costume's! You'll probably get hot either way- but it will be worth it! I'm planning on going all out this year, long dress, wig, makeup and all! I'm used to being to hot due to clothing but if i get to hot on the night i plan to take off the wig and maybe pin the dress up- so you could plan to do something like that

I think you'll have no problem, as was sad before though if your doing face makeup use a sealing spray not a barrier spray. I used one from a threatre shop and my makeup lasted 10 hours in the sun, etc. then took 1.5 hours to get off with oil based soap.

I doubt it will scare anyone I went as the wicked witch painted green and though a few kids were scared it was very easy to pull up my sleeves and show it was makeup. One thing i did not expect though was parents stopping me to comment and not realizing there kids were terrified so I'd have to excuse myself.

I use the busses but plan a longer trip and make sure you get a seat I made the mistake of standing when i went while trying to hold a broom and keep my hat on for 30 minutes. I was wearing a floor length edwardian/victorian dress which didnt help either.

I did get a LOT of double takes but it was kinda fun thats why I did it. I was fine in my costume on halloween but it was quite cold. The year before i was there and it was quite hot and i used cooling cloth thing I bought in store.

Also if you have never done the makeup before plan on it taking some time. I didnt expect it to take over an hour with help to just do my face and hands.

You should not have any trouble. Last year when we went, one of our favorites of the costumes we saw was a wife dressed in a costume almost exactly what you describe, and her husband was also dressed as a ghost. They looked fabulous! Their costumes were good enough that they could have played the characters in the park or been in the parade. I wish we had taken a picture of them, or with them! We passed them or were standing by them a few times during the night and they were getting lots of compliments from both CMs and park guests. I would forego the white contacts though. You might scare some children with those, and I don't think they would be very comfortable. As far as the heat, it can still be pretty hot in the evenings in September and October, it is just hard to say. You might get a nice night, or you might be burning up.
The bus is fine. On the bus to MK, you will see a bunch of other people in costume. At the bus stop waiting, there will be people going to the other parks who will stare at you, especially if you go early and there are not that many other people going yet, but they all know you are going to MNSSHP, and mostly they are just checking out your costumes!

I wore a full costume that a tail for my last MNSSHP - it was a ton of fun!

Next year, I'll be the Tightrope Girl from the Haunted Mansion and I can't wait!

In MNSSHP season you'd be the odd one out if you were not in costume (or at least a Halloween themed t-shirt) on the bus around 4 PM. Everyone I've seen is usually friendly and a great costume is a good conversation starter.
