Hi! This will be our first Disney vacation! We are staying at the Polynesian and plan on taking advantage of extra magic hours. Could someone please give me an idea on how long it would take to get from the resort to MK (via the monorail)? We'd like to enter the park as early as possible!!

It kind of depends on where you are starting from at the Poly. Your room could be a walk from the main building where the monorail stops. So it could take a 10-15 minutes to walk to the monorail platform. A few minute wait for the monorail to arrive. 10-15 ride to the MK which includes a stop at the GF. Then there is the time it takes to get through the security checkpoint. So if were me I would give myself 30-45 to get to the MK from the Poly if I wanted to get there at rope drop.

Thanks, that's exactly the info I was looking for! Now, do you think it would be faster to take the boat (or would that too depend on which longhouse we were in)?

All things being equal, the boat and the monorail would take roughly the same amount of time, maybe a minute or two variance either way. I'm definitely not a poly expert, though - you may want to ask on the resorts board.

If you want to be at or near the front of the pack, I would leave the room about an hour before rope drop.

To be honest I have very little experience with the boat to the MK. I don't know if it goes directly to the MK or if it makes any stops. However, I will say that I did try to take the boat to the MK one morning after breakfast. The line was long and the boat was nowhere in sight. I waited a few minutes and gave up and went to the monorail. I guess the monorail holds more people and runs on a more frequent schedule. If I were pressed for time I would take the monorail.

5 minutes? It's two stops away. You're not talking about a half hour trip.

The boat is direct and faster to MK. On the way back it doesn't make any real difference as both stop elsewhere first. Either will have you there in 10-15 minutes.
