Hey Disers!

My trip looks like it might be changing and now I could be travelling to the land solo during the week of the Starwars Half Marathon in Jan next year. I've had a quick look at accommodation and everything is pretty much booked up (as I expected it would be this late) so I am looking into staying slightly further away than I usually would and getting a taxi in each morning. I like to be at the parks in line for opening so would be there fairly early in the mornings. I am just wondering how difficult it will be to get to Disneyland with the Marathon on? Do certain roads close down etc? And would I need to allow extra time to get there due to traffic congestion?

Yes. Roads will be closed, park openings will be later and there will be more people trying to get there for opening on fewer routes. Generally there is access to M&F from the flyover coming south on the 5. ART shuttles take racers to the corrals, so if you can find a hotel on the ART route I would think you'd be ok Fri & Sat, and then worst case you could go really early on Sunday, cheer on the esplanade, and then go hand out in Starbucks until the gates are about to open.

Yes, roads do close, the worst is Sunday Morning, but Saturday morning has a few closures.

For example, part of Harbor Blvd (main taxi area for Disneyland) gets closed down. The Taxi drivers should know how to avoid much of it.

What Hotel/Motels are you looking at, (aka North, South, east or west of the DLR?)

At this stage I have a booking at Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate (100 West Disney Way) so I should be able to walk from there so long as I know where I need to go. Or would it be easier to taxi do you reckon?

Walking would be easier. It is about a 15 min walk. Most of the marathon is contained to the south of the park. Just walk west on Disney Dr to Harbor. Cross, turn right and follow the sidewalk to the Esplanade.
