Is it really a hassle? I can save $800 by flying in to Sanford and definitely DO NOT want to rent a car. Once I waste time and pay for ground transport, will it be worth it? I think I would really miss using Magical Express.:( It's that first moment you realize you are really in Disney!

I loved flying into Sanford. But.....we rented a car! The drive was really easy and straightforward. A car service will cost you about $200 r/t, and takes close to an hour.
So, it looks like you'll be saving $600 after paying for transport..not too bad!! The nice thing is that it is a much smaller airport, so you don't waste nearly as much time getting around it. You can probably get away with arriving there 90 mins prior to flight departure vs 2 hrs at MCO.

Before making a decision, make sure you're really saving $800. If you're flying a budget airline (such as Allegiant) make sure to look at all of the costs. They tend to nickel and dime you. While the tickets may be considerably less, by the time you add in all the fees, the savings become much less substantial.

What's your reason for not wanting to rent a car? We've flown into Sanford twice and rented a car both times. It's a super easy drive, and then we had the car on property, so we didn't have to use the Disney buses, which was nice. We have a direct flight to Sanford from our regional airport, while traveling to MCO requires a connection, which is why we opt to go to Sanford.

While car services are available from Sanford (or Tanpa) to Disney, the further from Disney the airport is, the more magnified the problems become if something goes wrong such as your car services does not show up on time to take you back to the airport. So you need to allow more time before your flight when leaving your resort compared with what your car service suggests.

We have flown into Sanford several times, but we have always rented a car. This year is actually the first time we're flying into MCO because we found a super good rate on Delta. So we are going to get to experience the Magical Express for the first time!! That being said, we always fly Allegiant into Sanford, and the above posters are correct, there are a lot of fees. But if you know what you're getting into, we still always come out cheaper (even with renting a car usually).
