Never been to California before. We'll be spending 1 week at the Disneyland Hotel. Would like to go to Knotts Berry Farm and Universal Studios.

1.Is there easy public transportation from the hotel to these parks?
2.If not, any ideas on how much a taxi would run?

We'll be going down to San Diego after Disneyland for a few days. Can you rent a car from any of the hotels at Disneyland and return it to whichever airport you are flying home from?

Thanks in advance!

Google Maps has a public transportation search option, you can see if the bus and train schedules work for you. For pretty much all public transportation you're going to have to walk through DTD, across the Esplanade to Harbor. ART also goes to Knott's. I would rent a car for Universal, it's 40 miles away. No DLR hotel has an Alamo car rental, but there is one at DTD and some others in the area. You'll have to check the cost of a one way rental and if your rental company of choice is at both locations and allows it.

ART takes you near Knott's Berry Farm. So does the Metro 460 Bus from in front of Disneyland (metro.net).

LuxBus, Grayline, Starline and the Anaheim Tour Company all have transport to these places, as well.

If you are going to San Diego and thinking about renting a car, I would look at the Pacific Surfliner (Amtrak). It's 2 hours and drops you right downtown. Cab to the Train Station at Angel Stadium is probably $15. From the station in San Diego, you can get anywhere via cab.

I know it's not car rental and, to me, renting a car is great because you can stop and see things on the way but, if there are crazy expensive drop off fees to leave it somewhere else, this might be a better option.

We rented a car from the DTD Alamo a few weeks ago. One way to San Diego is not bad when you drop it at the San Diego airport. I booked thru Costco. I found picking up a car at LAX is very expensive (airport fee).

the Alamo office is next to DLH, very close to the Adventure Tower...we walked to the office w/ our bags, easier than figuring out how to get back to the hotel via car.
