I guess maybe this should be on the Transportation board, but I thought DVC'ers would probably know the best way to get to Hilton Head?

We would be coming from Cleveland and I'm thinking fly into Charlotte, NC and then on to HH? Expedia is quoting over $700 R/T, seems US Airways is the only one who flies into HH. I think I can get into Charlotte for a reasonable price, but then the problem is getting to HH. When I searched flights just Charlotte to HH, the quoted me over $600 just for that part of the trip?

Driving isn't really an option for us, so is there a reasonably priced way to fly into HH?

Do you mean HIlton Head,SC or Vero Beach in Florida? There are both. I have heard that Savannah is the closest (45 min?) and Charleston next closest for flying in (2 hrs?) I don't think that Charlotte is that close.

Sorry, I meant Hilton Head! I don't know where Vero Beach came from, I know that's in Florida! Sorry! I edited my original post.

To clarify, I'm looking to stay at the Disney resort in Hilton Head and am trying to figure out the best way to fly from Cleveland to HH.

And don't forget that you will definitely want a car while you're at Hilton Head anyhow, so flying directly into HHI isn't necessary.

You can also check airfares to Columbia or Charleston, SC, in case there are any specials going on. Each is about a 2-hour drive from HH.

We have been to HH twice and both times we flew into Savannah and rented a car - the resort is about a 45 minute drive from the airport. We have looked into HH airport, but they tend to be those 30 seater prop planes, and I'm not comfortable flying on those.

We usually do Boston-Charlotte-Savannah on US Air. We paid $238 one year and $138 the next - both times in August.

Flights that begin or end in Charlotte cost a fortune because it's a hub. For my dh it's always cheaper for him to fly through CLT and end in HH (or Savannah) even though the flight is longer (and he changes planes in CLT where we live). Go figure. Air Tran is now competing in CLT and a whole lot cheaper. You can fly them out of Akron to SAV I believe. Try the website www.sidestep.com ---it shows all the options (including nearby airports as options). If worst comes to worst, the drive time is 12 hours!

The reason I am trying to figure out this trip without driving is because my parents are going...not me  and they don't really drive...well, they do, but not much, just for grocery shopping, to the doctor, church, that kind of thing, so driving in a strange city really isn't an option. Close friends of theirs are DVC members and have offered to let them stay as guests with points they aren't going to be using. They don't have much interest in Disney without the grandkids and my mom has always wanted to go to Hilton Head and stay on the beach.
I figure if I can get them into HH somehow, they can grab a cab to the resort. I'd love for them to make the trip, but I know there's no way they'll pay $1400 or more for airfare. I wouldn't either though, it's outrageous, even with the free rooms!

I think you need to go and make sure your parents are taken care of properly. It's your duty. Sacrifice at all costs.

WaltD4 have you clicked on the links people have shown you?

Airfair if booked in advance will be well under 300 dollars each.

I'm trying to figure out an easy and cheap way to get from Hartford/Bradley to Hilton Head. I can fly SWA to Jacksonville, FL, so how long of a drive would it be from Jacksonville to HHI?

Anyone else from CT have any tips on getting from CT to HHI?

It is about 170 miles from Jacksonville, FL to Hilton Head Island. Most of it is interstate. Depending on how you drive and traffic could be 2.5 to over 3 hours.
