I'm wondering if it worth asking my doctor to sign the form for a temporary disabled parking permit so that I don't have issues with parking and having an ECV.

We were a little stressed last time about parking issues at Disney when we had a ECV to load and unload yet didn't have a permit to park in the disabled section.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritus but under normal every day situations do not require a ECV but need one while visiting Disney as I just can't manage that amount of walking.

Do you think it is worth asking?

We will also have a AAA diamond parking card so that may put us closer enough to the front to deal with the ECV.

It would not hurt to ask the doctor; possibly even for a permanent card. I have only used mine at times when I felt it was needed.

As far as Diamond Parking, for MK and AK it is almost as convenient as disabled. For MGM it is quite a bit further, and I have never figured out where it is for Epcot.

Are you staying at one of the WDW resorts?
If so, I would suggest you take the bus to MK because the bus stops are very close to the turnstiles. If you park in the MK parking lot, you will need to go to the TTC and then either take the monorail (up a steep ramp) or the boat to get to the park turnstile area.

My husband INSISTED on driving from CBR to the parks every day. We would park in the handicapped parking at the MK, take a courtesy wheelchair to Mickey's Gift Station. Then I would *hobble* with 2 crutches and knee brace up the LOOOONG ramp to the Monorail, go down the LOOONG ramp down at the MK, go through bag check, through the turnstiles, then finally to the ECV rental. Then do it all in reverse when we left. I wish we had rented an ECV off site, but he didn't want to...UGH.

We were there last month with an ECV we rented from offsite.

When you pull into any the parking lot, just tell the attendant that you are "medical overflow" & they will direct you to parking up front.

We did not know about this until we got to Epcot or MGM (can't remember which) on the 1st day of our trip & we told the attendant we had a scooter. He sent us up to the front of the lot & told us to tell the attendant "medical overflow". We did this for the rest of our 9 day trip. Worked fine!

**We had not had time before we left on our trip to even ask our doctor about getting a temp. handicapped parking card because DH had just broken his big toe the day we left for WDW.

Just explain that you have an ECV and no handicapped parking permit to each CM that you come to in the parking lot. They will direct you to an appropriate place to park.

My DD aged 9 has myositis, which causes more or less the same inflammatory effects than RP. Each time we ask for a GAC (guest assistance card), so far she even didn't have a WC, we just rented one at park entrance. They let you use the disabled parking with a GAC. You can ask for a GAC with no medical evidence.

Do not use the disabled parking if you do not have a state issued tag. (I know the UK "Blue Badge" is also accepted, I'm not sure if there is a French equal.) The parking lots are patrolled by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and if they see someone parked in that area without a legal tag they will issue a $250 ticket. And if you have a rental car it will go to the rental company and they will have a legitimate delayed charge to your credit card.

However, when you get into the parking lot, tell the person who is directing traffic at the start of a row (and show the GAC) and you will be directed to park in one of the reserved spaces right next to the tram lane.
