getting tape off of pictures

My FIL passed away a few months ago and DD made a beautiful photo collage

of his life and family--she did a awesome job--it was just great

but I don't know if she was thinking it was going to be very winding that day

she used at least 3 pieces of double sided tape for each picture

now Im trying to get the pics off the boards (which actually is the easy part)

and put them back in the photo books

but Im having a big (and I mean big) problem getting the tape off the backs

of the pics

does anyone know or have any secrets on how to get the tape off

Any of the sticky remover liquids will probably eat the paper. You could try a razor blade the peel it off. I would just put them back in the book with the tape on them. The damage from the tape over time would probably be less than the damage I would do right now trying to get the tape off.

Goo Gone Sticker Lifter! I use it all the time in scrapbooking. Always test it first but I have never had a problem with it damaging my photos or paper. Goo Gone has several different products but I only use the one called Sticker Lifter-- usually found in the craft stores.

Hopefully she was smart enough to use a photo safe tape. In which case you could just leave it on. If you want to proceed with any removal method, I'd do a high resolution scan of the photo first, and save it in a file on your computer. That way, if you damage the photo, you'll at least have a good copy of it.

I don't know what I was thinking though that I needed to get the tape off

before putting them back in the albums

Another suggestion from a scrapbooker.... a product called Un-Du. It truly will NOT damage your photo AT ALL... even old antique pictures. It can be hard to find sometimes, but it is a great product.............P

I've also used dental floss to gently slide under tape especially to remove pictures from those "magnetic" albums.
