I thought someone said that if you book directly through DCL, you could find out your stateroom number so that you could refuse it and ask for a different one.

I have tried doing a res. online, and it doesn't give a stateroom numer, only a category. Is it necessary to do it by phone? And if so, could someone please post the number?

You don't have to go with DCL just because you want to know the room number. You might want to try Dreams because they offer a limited time rebate based on the cost of your cruise. We booked 1st time through AAA , 2nd & 3rd through DCL ,4th and 5th with Dreams. Out of all the reservations, I have been happiest with Dreams. Regardless of who you book with, if a room is not available in your cat for your sail date you will get a guarantee reservation with room # to be assigned at a later time. On our cruise currently booked with Dreams this happened and when Dreams gave me my room number, I asked them if I could switch and it was done with no problems (since it was available).... in fact they then came back and told me that my price dropped due to a promotion and I was able to switch from a Cat12 to a Cat6 for only $160.00 more. Good luck in what ever you choose to do...
DCL # I used in the past was 1-800-951-3532
and JUST IN CASE here is how to get in touch with Dreams: www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com

If you want a specific location or cabin # call DCL. We booked our first cruise on line and was assigned a cabin with no choice. We booked our second with DCL on the phone and was able to make a request which we got.

I second that. The first cabin we were offered was under the Mickey pool so I asked for one closer to being under the spa, adult pool etc. and got it with no problem. Room #8528, here we come!!

I booked our first cruise online (May 30, 2002 Wonder), and when I got the reservation, I wasn't crazy about the room location, so I called DCL and they listed all the available rooms for that catagory and allowed me to change to a different room. They were really great about that! But, for our next cruise, I wanted a specific room, so I called DCL to book rather than take my chances online.

I have booked by calling DCL, through AAA twice and while on board. Each time I was given a room #.:D
