I'm putting together some snack/goodie bags for our trip. Should I ship them down and pay for the shipping? Or should I just take an extra suitcase and check it at the airport? We are flying Southwest, so the bag would ship for free.
What are the rules about checking bags with food in them?

Also, if I ship it to CSR, will there be an extra fee since it is a Convention center? I thought I read that somewhere on here.:confused3

Ok. I looked on Southwest's website and saw that you aren't supposed to take food in your checked bags. I guess that answers one of my questions.

So, how do you send a package to CSR? I'm not sure where and when to mail my box of goodies.

Weird, I put cereal, chips, and other (dried) foods into my checked bags, including chocolate. Maybe certain types of food you're not supposed to take?

You have to send via UPS or Fed-Ex to the Disney resorts. More information can be found here:

Thanks for the link. I think I'll just go ahead and ship it. A bag full of snacks might be too tempting for the person screening the checked bags.:lmao:

I don't know where you are getting this information. Of course you can pack food in checked bags.

It says...

Customers are asked to:
Not pack food or beverages in checked bags.

That is just a suggestion. If you pack non-perishable food you should be fine. I think the suggestion is because of the extreme temperatures and handling that your bags are subjected to. The first time we took food, we took bagels in our suitcase and they went moldy after one day. I suspect that it was because of the "heat" in the baggage compartment. Since then we have only taken non-perishable food and have had no problems.

i have another suggestion. i love ordering stuff from walmart.com this past trip i ordered 2 cases of water, beef jerky, lays stax, purex 3 in sheets 1 for laundry (love these), mixed nuts, granola bars, and some chocolate. you can pretty order anything you might need. i had everything shipped directly to the resort and it was very economical. a case of water only costs 3.48. if you order $45 worth of items shipping is free. i plan on doing this again for my upcoming trip.

garden grocer is another option. there is also a hess station right across from downtown disney where you can get beer, snacks, bottled water etc.

in the past i have put non perishable food items in checked luggage with absolutely no issues. i either fly southwest or jetblue on my disney trips. hope this helps.

That is not a rule. You can certainly pack food and beverages in checked bags. There is even a page on WN's website explaining how to package alcohol in checked bags. You need to read your airline's Contract of Carriage for the actual rules; WN's says they accept perishable items (section 7, Baggage):

http://www.southwest.com/assets/pdfs/corporate-commitments/contract-of-carriage.pdf

However, if you want to pay to ship items you can check for free, that's certainly your right.

Thanks for the information. I haven't flown that often, so I'm not familiar with the rules about what you can and can not bring on the plane. I thought it was odd when I saw that note about not packing food in checked bags. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I will gladly use one of my checked bags for snacks. :)
