This is for those of us on the DVC Member Cruise this October who want to get into shape before we get on the ship.

Tell us your goal and how you are going to meet it. I'll update the first post with all our goals. Then we can use this thread to support each other.

Good luck!

Here are our goals:

Mary - 35 lbs.

Cindy - 30 lbs.

Stacy - TBD

Amy - Eating Healthier

Diana - 40 lbs.

Gail - Eating Healthier and Exercising

Ann Marie - 40 lbs.

Chris - 50-60 lbs.

Way to go guys - lets keep it up!

Here's my goal - to lose 35-40 pounds by the time of the Cruise (October 22nd)

I'm back doing WW online and this is how I intend to achieve my goal:

Water - drink at least 64 oz. every day

Points - record all my points and stay within my weekly range

Exercise - at least 30 minutes a day/5 days a week. Most likely on the treadmill but also WATP to mix things up a bit.

Support - I know I can do it with the help of my DIS friends!

My goal is at the just under a pound a week rate. I feel this is a safe and attainable goal. Hopefully it will be more, but this will allow for those weeks where I stall or where things don't go as planned.

Okay, I'm in. :cheer2:

Gosh, hard questions, Mary. I won't be as specific as you are, because it seems like you have given this a lot more thought that I have. So, I'll just kind of roll with the flow for now.

Based on a strong family history of cardiac problems, my first and foremost goal is cardiac fitness. Weight loss will hopefully come with that. Smarter eating, exercise, better choices.

Drinking water is awesome and something I've gotten out of the habit of doing. It's a great filler and good for our bodies. :thumbsup2

Exercise goes right along with it. We belong to a nice health club here. Unfortunately, I don't remember the last time I was there. :guilty: So, goal #1 would be to get back into the swing of things. I wish I could say that I would devote a specific # of minutes a day or a week, but our lives doesn't allow that. So, I will have to make a point of fitting my exercise time into the rest of the craziness we have around here. I should at minimum be able to exercise 2 x a week. With any luck, maybe 3. :cool1:

Mary, I have to ask. What is WATP???

Cindy - WATP is Walk Away The Pounds. It is an exercise routine that lets you walk in the comfort of your home. Walking in place, kicks, leg lifts. Its pretty good. I'll show you when you come over to scrapbook.

Each of our goals will be different and how we get there will be different. There is no right or wrong. Kind of like what we were talking about with the Cirlcle Journals. :)

Since I'm at a desk job I have to make time to walking and other exercise. You are go go go all day with the little ones so you already get a lot more exercise than I do.

I'm In!
I will have to give the questions and answers a little thought before I can answer them. Right now my brain is fried but I wanted to take the first step.

I'm in too, ladies (and maybe some gents).

I've been working on this since Jan 1st, and I've lost 11 lbs so far. I've been eating better, lots of lean protein (fish, chicken and the occasional lean beef), lots of fruits & veggies, whole grain carbs and LOTS of water.

My problem is the exercise, I always find an excuse not to do it. But, I'm committing to it this time.

11 pounds!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Good for you!! :cheer2:

OK, while the girls are still asleep, I have some time to think about this and write it all out.

On New Years Day I made a 4 part resolution. And as corny as it sounds, I'm working on the "star system". :lmao: Each resolution has a specific color star and if I go Sunday-Saturday upholding it, I get that color star for the week. Well, 4 weeks in, I have 2 weeks with all 4 stars, 1 week with 3, and 1 week with 2---and that was a REALLY bad week. :rotfl2:

--No Coke, But Diet Coke is OK. I mean the big old red can that screams my name every time I see it. :rotfl2: This is my worst vice in the world. I'll tell you how bad I am. I was doing so good the first week, until Bruce, who usually drinks Mountain Dew cracked open a 2 liter of Coke. :scared1: Yeah, it was all downhill from there. I couldn't even function knowing there was an open bottle in the fridge, I was worse than an alcoholic. I got up in the middle of the night---glug, glug, glub, right out of the bottle!! I have no will power. :sad2:

--Go to exercise class at least 4 times a week (45 minute classes). It's hard because it sometimes conflicts with my moms club stuff, but it's been a lot of fun. Monday is Power Pump (weights, bands, tubes), Tuesday is Water Aerobics with the old folks (think Cocoon), Wednesday is BoSU (the coolest, hardest class ever), Thursday is Cardio Kickboxing (look out, I can kick some butt now!) and since I take Friday off I go to a Water Aerobics Thursday night, then Saturday morning is Step Class. I've gone to at least 5 ever week so far. My exercise star has been my easiest star to get, I'm really enjoying it, and I've never exercised before in my life.

--Eating out only once a week. This includes fast food and table service. This one is really hard, because especially during the day, the drive through is the easiest thing for me. I've saved a ton of money doing this too.

--Water. 64oz a day, and that's really really hard for me. I hate water, I hate drinking it, I hate the taste.

:cheer2: My goal is 40 pounds. :cheer2:

Amy - congrats on the 11 pounds already!

Diana - You are off to an amazing start. I understand the Coke addiction. Mine was Pepsi. That was the one thing i gave up in 2003. I now have it like someone else would have an alcoholic drink - just everyone once in a while. For example our group from the office went out for pizza last Friday and the drinks are included in the price. So I treated myself to a glass of pop. Or if Mark has one in the car I make drink some. Other than that it is mostly water for me. It was hard at first but I felt a lot better because of it. In fact after that treat on Friday I felt super bloated so it make it easier to resist again.

I woke up a little earlier than normal today and after getting washed, dressed and DISing found I still had a half hour before I needed to leave for work. So I went down on the treadmill and did 1/2 hour at a nice slow pace (only did a mile in that 1/2 hour). Enough to get my body moving, but not so much that i would sweat a done and have to get washed and dressed again. :) I still plan on going on the treadmill tonight.

I haven't set any goals regarding the amount of weight I want to lose - trust me I have plenty, but was hoping if I changed my eating habits and did some amount of exercise the weight would begin to drop on it's own.

Yesterday was my first day without a diet coke - I drank water all day. I even got in some exercise yesterday. My goal for that is at least 3x a week. We have the gym membership, but I never go - my dd tells me there are some really good classes, so today I will go over and pick up the calendar of classes and plan my weeks around the classes that interest me.

My biggest hurdles will be the snacking (which is what I do all day) and getting into the exercise groove (which will take alot of will power). Hopefully, the time has come that I am determined to make some changes in the right direction.

Congrats to Amy on the 11 pound loss :cheer2:

Diana your plan sounds good and it sounds like you really enjoy it - keep up the good work :cheer2:

This is just what I needed. I did lose 19 lbs before Christmas on WW and have stayed the same since. My goal is to lose 40 lbs before the cruise and to have all new clothes. I packed my shorts that fit this summer for our vacation last week and my shorts were falling off. It was a really good feeling. I just want to buy clothes off the rack in a regular store and not have to worry if the XL will fit.

I need to work on the exercise. I joined an exercise club a few months ago and I have not gone in at least a month. My goal is to go at least three times a week.

I am addicted to diet coke. I drink way too much but I HATE water. I really, really HATE water. I am going to drink 64 oz a day before I can have any diet coke. I think this will be the hardest thing for me to do.

Thank you for starting this thread and getting me back in the weight loss mode.

Ann Marie

I would like to loose 50 to 60 pounds. My goal is to work out 5 times a week. (cardio and strenght training)Drink more water! No more snacking after 8 at night! I did 40 minutes of crunches today and walked a mile today. Hope to lose some of my middle. ;)

Butting in here. I hate water too. Blech! Do you like yours with lemon? Keep a cut lemon in the fridge so it's handy.

OR...try a product called "True Lemon." It's crystallized lemon in a little envelope. It is AWESOME!! SOme stores have them, some don't. It'll be by the sugars/brown sugars/flours if yours does. If not...www.truelemon.com can put you in touch with some online stores.

If you'd like to sample some, PM me and I'll send you some. I have a TON Of it. :)

This thread is going great. For those of you who want a little extra motivation there are a number of challenges here on WISH each month.

The 5 for February challenge where you vow to lose 5 lbs. this month.

Or the February exercise challenge where you decide how much exercise you want to do this month and keep yourself accountable for.

Last, but not least, Chris you might want to look into the New Year New You challenge. The February one is "the kitchen is closed" you pick a time you don't want to eat after and then see if you can keep it for each day of the month.

I've signed up for all three challenges. Hope I can do them all!

Oh, I know I am....
No waiting list for me. For various reasons, this cruise just isn't going to work out. :( Maybe next time. :)

Diana, I'm following you as I just signed up for the February exercise challenge and you were the last one to post. :wave2:

I just ordered a couple of the WATP's DVD's. I figure I can devote a little time to then while the kids are sleeping. Mary even suggested I get the kids moving a bit -- that will definately be a sight to see if we do. :rotfl2:

We decided to cancel our Lifetime membershp and switch over to the YMCA. It's $30 cheaper a month, Cameron is actually old enough to participate in some of the classes which will be good for him and the main reason, it's right down the street from us. If I'm really going to try and workout in the AM's before Gary goes off to work and the day truly starts, I can make it to the Y in 10 minutes max. Lifetime was easily 20-25 one way. So, this makes it even more attainable. We just have to go through orientation before we can really start.

So, I'm getting off to a slow start, but it's a start none the less. And, I've been drinking much more water today. I forgot how many bathroom trips it forces in the beginning. :yay: This is me today -- and I'm not doing jumping jacks! :lmao: Good thing we'll be home the next couple of days. :teeth:

I don't really like mine with lemon, because to me, it's still water and not Coke! :rotfl2: I'll have to look out for that stuff next time I got to the store though. I sounds good.

First of all, every time I see WATP, I think Walk Around The Parks, as in Disney parks!

Our Y is literally 2 minutes away, so it makes it easy for me too. I joined the Y in October to get Emma back into swimming class. Then Jan 1st I swore I was going to go to classes myself. When I was pregnant with Julia I went to water aerobics three time a week. I love water aerobics. The only problem is, the average age of the people in the classes at my Y is about 87. Seriously, there were a ton of 90+ year old folks doing it. God Bless them! So, I figured I needed to start going to regular exercise classes and I'm really enjoying it. Plus, our Y has a great Kid's Corner, so I can leave the girls there to play for the hour I'm there.

Today was BoSU class. If anyone has the chance to go to one of these try it. It's super fun. It's mostly about balance as you are standing on a half of a rubber ball on a platform most of the class. Sure, you fall off, but you work really hard and I've found 5 weeks in, I'm falling off less and less.

Tomorrow is Cardio Kickboxing. :yay: I'm getting ready for a big fighting match! :lmao:
