I have so many thoughts running through my head is it the right decision the wrong decision or should i wait for the new lodge or should i buy ssr im so close but so nrevous i'm usually not this way....Everyone on this forum has been so helpful over the last week i just dont no what to do :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
WHAT TO DO

Only you can make that decision, but for our family it was a great decision.
Good luck! :sunny:

You should buy where you want to stay!

Personally I'd pick AKL over SSR any day, but be aware that at AKL you will have a great resort but lousy park access.

Remember, you aren't limited to these two resorts. By putting your name on a waiting list you might be able to get BWV or OKW almost immediately, directly from Disney.

What are your thoughts? Do you not like SSR? Is the 12 years really important to you? Or do you LOVE another resort that ends earlier?

How important is easy access to the parks for you? Or do you like to hang out?

If there is one resort that keeps coming to your head ....then buy it!!! EDIT: I just realized that you are considering whether or not to buy not just where. So in that case...take your time.....

If you can't plan and will never want/be able to use the 11-7 month window then it doesn't really matter where you buy b/c at 7 months everyone is equal. Some say Disney might change this one day....but I have my doubts on that.

Don't forget that Disney can sell you a "sold out" resort ($95/pt.??). Some you have to go on a waiting list. Others are instantaneous!!! Just say "I'm not buying SSR; I will only buy _________". Because some guides need to be pushed. Others just say, "okay".

It is a large purchase. It is not a bad thing to think things through....but then again if it is only about the resort choice and if some resort is saying, "yes...buy me!!!" ...just do it.

All the best to you and congratulations,

Lisa

Keep in mind there is a very active secondy market for DVC. Most likely, you will be very happy with your purchase. But on the slight chance you aren't, you can always buy AKL as an add-on, then sell your SSR - probably for at least what you paid.

awesome ty we really liked ssr but like you said it is large purchase i like the fact of active sec market plus extra 12 years will help if i want to resale

You'll likely be able to sell your SSR points for more than you paid ($86 promo) in the future if you end up wanting a different home resort.

I felt the same way before we purchased. The current incentive is what closed the deal for us. I'm happy with SSR, but I figured I could always add on if I decided I'd rather have a different home resort.

Good luck MILLZ! :cheer2:

Anyone with that many shoulder shrugging smilies should only do one thing.....nothing!

Keep reading this and other forums until you know DVC inside out. Keep asking questions here, including the "where should I buy?" ones.

And lastly, list any remaining reservations about buying that you might have. I think most people here will give you pretty candid advice based on the knowledge that while almost all of us love our DVC purchase, we know that it is not a good idea for everyone.

There should be no rushing this big purchase decision. When you decide to purchase, the only concern you should have is when your first trip should be. :)

Agree! If you are not sure, wait until you are.

Best wishes -

I think many of us felt just like you do. I just joined a month ago, but spent a few months in "agony" over my decision. I had at least 20 sheets of papers filled out with different costs and would it save me money, cost me money, or break even. Did I want to go to Disney every year? What would vacations look like if I joined? Would I regret not joining ten years from now? I walked for hours thinking (and praying) about joining or not. And, I spent countless hours right here on this discussion forum, reading and re-reading what people were saying. (also, several hours with my Guide -- poor fellow). Here is what pushed me over the edge towards buying:
1) I enjoy amusement parks. Disney is Great! I know I will be happy spending one week a year (or more) for the "other worldly" experience.
2) I can take family and friends changing my vacation experience each year. My first trip will be in July and my brother and his wife have decided to go with me. True, we could have done that before. But for some reason, never did. DVC opened the door of opportunity for vacation with family.
3) If I decide I don't want it anymore, I can sell it. Now I may lose money in the process. But even so, I feel the chance of "loss" is worth the risk because of the greater chance of it being one of my best decisions.
4) The promo at SSR for $86/point made me feel I was getting a great deal, and fit my budget much better. I also like SSR and it's location. I can just walk to DTD or ride the boat putting me around a lot of excitement. Or just walk around SSR for a little more peace and quiet.
5) I HAD THE MONEY FOR IT. It's not going to create a financial burden on me, even the MF's. Of course some fancy budgeting is taking place now. But it is working.

I can tell you this: after the decision was made and I went forward, I had perfect peace about it. And now I feel like a child on Christmas morning who just unwraped something really special. I'm excited about my first trip! I'm excited about being a DVC member. And I'm especially happy that I thought it through and took the time to research just about everything about DVC (thanks to all of you here).

Good luck on your decision. Understand that the process of deciding can be part of the "fun." If you are not certain about joining, don't feel pressured that you have to make a decision TODAY.
