Getting Ready for a Wild Time at Food & Wine- An October 2015 PTR - Updated 7/27

grabbed a vegan cupcake and donut at Erin McKenna's Bakery (formerly known as BabyCakes)

I have to ask - how were they? I've never really done vegan baked goods, but Erin McKenna Bakery is the only place (as far as I know) that you can get fresh-baked kosher goodies at Disney, so I really want to try it out, and I hope it's good!

These are my go to favorites at Indian restaurants and Disney did not let me down. The only change I would make is it would have been nice to have a separate plate to put the dish on top of the rice.

That looks good, but I definitely agree that it would have been nice to be able to put the dish on top of the rice!

I'm glad you enjoyed Sanaa! I'm really impressed at how great Disney is with handling dietary needs & restrictions, so I'm always glad to hear when they can provide a meal that does not disappoint!

I've never tried an African wine, but will be sure to now. :)

Yes you do. So many people haven't and it's this like amazing secret. Especially South African Pinotage and Chenin Blanc (and don't trust anyone who tells you New Zealand is better)

Great review!! I wish they had Zebra domes elsewhere...I may have to trek over there just to have them...The naan does look really good...as does everything...but I think I will have to wait until my DD is older to eat there...

I feel like all the AKL restaurants should have them as a desert option but it's worth it and it's a nice way to feel like you've "earned" your desert a bit with the walk.

I will say Sanaa is one of the few Disney restaurants that I feel really is focused on a more adult menu. The table next to us had two boys (I'm guessing about aged 6 and 9) and while they were very well behaved and clearly not picky eaters, they did seem to still struggle a bit with the menu (and it was clear that they were not picky kids).

This sounds adorable! Can you post a photo? I actually need new kitchen timer!

Just a few bucks more and you get ALL of the accompaniments? That's a GREAT deal!

What did you mom think of it, did she like it? I'm not a big fan of Indian cuisine, but butter chicken is one that I'm okay with.

Yeah you did, girl! Zebra Domes are so om-nom-nommy!

I think you'll be fine! Disney is tops at handling this kind of stuff.

The Restaurants forum here is a good place to ask this question, or believe it or not, the DISabilities forum. Lots of discussion there about food allergies and gluten/dairy, etc. I bet some folks there could share their experience at Le Cellier with you!

My mom liked it, but she's not picky. The set up would be nice if you weren't sure if you'd like the dish as it was almost like having the sauce on the side. My dad will be the real test as he's the real picky eater in our family.

I'm not too worried about Le Cellier and my dietary restrictions. I had food allergies (that I've since outgrown) and have been there enough times as a vegetarian that I know they can handle. I'm more curious what to expect. The last time we went there (almost 5 years ago) the chef did a great dish for me with mashed potatoes and asparagus and mushrooms. It may sound weird but it was soooooooo good.

Erin McKenna's is amazing and it's definitely worth trying out. I've also been to the original Babycakes in NYC and the one in Orlando is just as good. They also do a really good job of having a variety of selections and discussing any potential concerns (for example sugar v. agave)

And I agree, I've gotten spoiled between Disney and my spring break trip to NYC when it comes to dietary needs. I think that's why Universal was a bit of a disappointment. Much like in my Southern hometown, the sitdown restaurants were easily manageable but it was a struggle at the quick counter service places. I think one of the biggest differences too was that at Disney the CMs seem to know how to handle dietary needs or what to do while at Universal the Team Members didn't. I also meant to say that the food court in Cabana Bay was the exception and is set up much like the food court at Art of Animation with a chef at each station. They were great with my dietary issues. The other exception was the restaurant in Hogsmeade, they also were really willing to discuss/work with me at breakfast. (Diagon Alley not so much so we skipped it)

I think there's nothing wrong with even Disney - which has a ton that IS aimed at kids - to have some restaurants/places that are more adult focused. If you want to take your kids there, great...but not everything has to always revolve around them. That said..I wouldn't even TRY taking my kids there lol...I agree about the Zebra domes lol And that Vegan bakery sounds awesome. I'm not vegan by any stretch...but if there's vegan food that tastes good too...I'm in :)

I agree completely! It's a nice change.

I'm thrilled to hear that you liked Sanaa! I'm even more excited to try it in just a few weeks! :-)

I hope you love it! It may be my new favorite.

YUM!!!!!!! That all looked amazing!!! So glad you had such a great experience. :cloud9:

Your kitchen timer sounds amazing! Darn, wish I had spotted that last week! :sad2:

Update 13: Waiting Time!
Sorry for the lack of updates back in the lull of Disney time. It's been busy I lacked internet access for a week (it's a long and irrelevant story so I'm not going to share it)!

What I'm most waiting for right now are the Food & Wine special events! I have my fingers crossed for a good wine tasting (come on South American or African wines) and a vegetarian food tasting (they do a few of these each festival). Based on passed years these should be released in about a month or so.

Also, I'll post a picture of the timer when I remember to use it. And anyone looking for one they're usually with the magnets

The Countdown:
93 days to FP+
153 days to Disney!!!!

Yes, I wanna see that kitchen timer, lady! :cutie:

And so I feel you on the whole "Hurry up and Wait!" time. Tomorrow I'm at 10 days until ADRs, and I'm going stir-crazy!!! :scared:

Yes I'm anxiously awaiting more info on Food and Wine too...hope there's some amazing new stuff in addition to the old ones that sounded good so far!

What Disney souvenir do you actually use in the "real world"?

For me it's definitely my mugs. I have several including the one I used this morning.

I Have an obsession with mugs...and I use my Disney ones on a daily basis! :D

Glad you've gotten your internet working, and *fingers crossed* for both the wine and vegetarian food tasting!

I'm also going to F&W for the first time in Oct. my trip starts October 4th. Adults only for the first time as well!! I can't wait!!!

Update 14: The No-Update Update
Sorry for the lack of updates again, but between the lull in Disney things and being super busy the last three weeks being crazy busy, I haven't had much time on the boards. To everyone who's reports I'm following, I'll plan to catch up when things (theoretically) slow down a bit next week.

Only real news, is because plane flights look cheap right now, we may fly instead of drive.

Still waiting on F & W events. I feel like there late announcing these, but maybe its because they've just announced everything else early.

The Countdown:
69 days to FP+
129 days to Disney!!!!

If I remember correctly, they start announcing F&W special events in July. So hopefully you'll have more info (and more to plan) soon!!

Update 15: Food & Wine Release Date and Double Digit Dance

Things have been busy between working, travelling, and getting ready for next semester. But in exciting news it looks like Food and Wine events will be released this week or next and available for booking on July 29. So there should be a new update soon!

Also today is the day I'm down to double digits!

The Countdown:
39 days to FP+
99 days to Disney!!!!

99 days to Disney!!!!
Woooooo! I'm about a month from my double digit dance still! So instead, I'm going to dance with you!!!

Update 16: Food & Wine Events and Travel Update

So yay! There's finally something to plan again.

Food and Wine events have been released! I'm mostly interested in the demonstrations, since as a vegetarian most of the other events would be difficult to navigate. While I was underwhelmed with wine and mixology, I'm excited to report that there is both a vegetarian and a desert demo scheduled for our EPCOT Day! My Dad definitely wants to do the desert one which I will do too. I'm trying to decide on the vegetarian one by myself and I'm leaning towards it. The disappointment for me with the release is how many of the vegetarian options have gone away this year. It looks like most of the vegetarian options this year are deserts :sad2:. I don't dislike deserts but I'm not a sugar addict and will miss Terra for a more substantial veggie tastes. I'm also disappointed that they did away with the vegetarian options in Poland and Scotland, but plan on trying the Mousaka in Greece.

Also, we're now leaning towards flying rather than driving. It's an 8 hour drive so it's right on that border. I'm fine driving, but my Dad has offered to foot the bill for flying so assuming the times work right, we'll likely fly.

Next update will probably cover the travel plans once we decide.

Classes start back soon and I'm running another half-marathon (sadly not at Disney) on Labor Day Weekend (as a kick off to my full marathon training), so I apologize for sporadic updates again.

The Countdown:
32 days to FP+
92 days to Disney!!!!
