Getting "Penciled In"

I just called DFTW to get penciled in for an Escape wedding in January 2011. The woman I spoke to told me that they don't reserve anything until 8 months out, and I should call back in May to get put on the books. She didn't give me the option to get something penciled in. I know that they don't officially book anything until 8 months out, but I thought you could get a soft reservation of sorts before then? I suppose it doesn't matter if it's not an official reservation, but I would like to get the ball rolling at least. Any insights?

I did this and got the same reply as you so i rang back again and changed how i worded things, i said, " i am interested in speaking to someone about a Disney wedding" and she said, "are you interested in Escape or Wishes?" so i said, "not sure, just want to go through both options with someone"

Try that and they will probably call you next week. When you do speak to a co ordinator just tell them you would like an Escape wedding.

I would call back I phoned just after a year out and got passed to a coordinator who pencilled me in (and I didnt need to say I wanted a wishes etc).

I have heard of other escape brides being pencilled in at 18 months

the wedding pavilion used to book 1 year out for escape brides, but they changed that to 8 months out. Being penciled in really doesn't mean anything. I was "penciled in" for 2 seperate dates for my wedding and when it came to book both of my times and locations were given away. So i had to keep pushing back the day because i knew i wanted the WP at 2:30 but the date didn't really matter that much. As long as you are flexable on one aspect of the day time/location/date, there wont be a problem. just dont get your heart set on a certain thing and DO NOT send out invites or Save the dates until you are officially booked because things can change so quickly.


it really sucks having everything so up in the air but that is just part of teh disney wedding stress. After that for escape brides it is reserving you reception dinner which can be done until 180 days before the date. that was the biggest thing for me. Everyone kept asking so what are we doing after??? and i was like well, i'm not sure yet, i know what i want to do! haha, but dont worry too much.

I had read on here and other places that you could get penciled in at 18mo. out, but when I called in January, I was basically told I couldn't do anything, even get penciled in. I was told to call back on April 1st to be penciled in, and then I could get booked in May, one year out. It seems like it depends on who you talk to, but I figured since getting penciled in doesn't really mean anything anyway, I wouldn't bother calling back and just wait until April.

It used to be 18 months when you could book 12 months out. If you have some questions you want answered then someone will call (or e-mail) you back.

This is another one of those frustrating things...I called in January for a December wedding and I pencilled in

Thanks everyone for all your advice! I followed your advice and called back this morning, and got through to the "having a coordinator call me back" stage. YAY! Now fingers crossed that the date we want is available... !

Umm... Just curious. What's the advantage to getting "penciled in?"

I dont think there really is one, maybe just a peice of mind for all us crazy brides. I kind of just want them to have me on file, wanting that date and location, just so i can sleep at night. Anybody know if there is an advantage to it or have it pay off for them?

The only advantage means you can ask your planner questions.

Oh and they can tell you if someone else wants the same time/date/location as you or if a convention books your reception choice.
