Getting over the mental block

So last night was a 30 minute run (using Galloway). I headed out the door thinking "it is only 30 minutes." Then it started raining. I briefly thought about turning around and going home but I pressed on, it stopped raining, and I completed my run. I was hoping for a better mileage since I was ony doing 2 miles but it wasn't meant to be. I ended up with my usual pace. :( So "boo" to that but "yay" that I continued even thought it was raining. That is progress! :goodvibes

I am thinking about taking an "off night" and running only a mile, but the best mile I can do to see what I CAN do. Does it even matter? I think psychologically I will benefit if I finish in a time I never thought I could do or it could go the other way and it will be a horrific mile and then I'm discouraged. Thoughts?

Also, don't push the speed on your walk breaks. We were discussing that this morning on our run. You don't actually gain that much time in your total race, and you don't recover from your run intervals enough to make it worth it. Last year during a marathon, a group of us thought we'd help our time if we walked briskly during our walk breaks, and about mile 13 we "re-evaluated" our strategy and slowed down when we realized that we were getting a lot more tired than we usually did on our long runs. Obviously, you don't want to crawl, but don't push yourself too much!

As for when your body gets the message... um, I haven't gotten there yet. :confused3

And congratulations to DD!

I'm mostly walking 2:15W/1:15R and at times I find the reverse to be true. Don't run so fast that you get overly tired so you can get back to your brisk walk afterward. But the idea remains the same. What ever is your non-primary method, don't over push the pace too much.

Well my first month of boot camp comes to an end on Friday. I decided to go back. So I will be there again next month. Getting up sucks but I like the program, I like the people and I like how I feel when we are done. Right now I am planning on going through November and taking off December. It will be really hard getting out of bed on those cold mornings. Of course I may end up just going through December as well. I like it. Who knew? ;):thumbsup2

My motivation for all of this was to get to Disney. That's it! Now, however, I think I'm turning the corner and seeing the bigger picture. Thank you Disney for getting me started on a new way of life. :thumbsup2

I started in February '06 so I could run my first 5K during the inaugural Minnie 5K/15K weekend in May. Hadn't run since college PE class. 4 1/2 years later, 7 half marathons and 3 full marathons behind me, it's pretty much my new way of life.
