Getting on a plane? DON'T COUGH too much . . .

As a passenger i would be very angry to be seated next to a passenger with uncontrollable coughing and would request a seat change or to be let off the plane. I have had enough of getting sick from people who should be home in bed. I have very severe asthma so what is someone else's cold becomes my Bronchitis.

Honestly i know this will offend but then people that are that up in arms over getting sick should just live in a bubble. I am not happy to get sick as much as the next person but do not want people to start controlling where i can or cannot go based on my sickness or if they think i am sick. The person that is coughing has as much right to be on that plane as you. You dont control that, if it bothers anyone that much they can do as you suggested, wait for another plane or request a seat change.

I think I'd rather sit next to a person with AIDS than someone with a hacking cough so bad that she can;t catch her breath and is in a panic.

But I defiantely wouldn't want to be on the plane with this baby eating pilot, he is obviously evil. He should lose his pilot's license, this girl is going to be scarred for life.

Whoa! Settle down. I don't care what disease you refer to, it is the context in which you use it that is offensive. No need to get snarky here. I did offer my tissues you know.:surfweb:

Not being snarky or hot about it. You posted Aids wasn't a joke. I replied I know that so is there another disease that would be better to use. I don't know that I used it in a certain context but rather as stating that she wasn't some skanky girl with an infectious disease. She's a 16 year old girl with a cough. If that offended..I AM truly sorry! I DO have a daughter who is almost 14 so I didnt think that was truly offensive!

And as an aside...I don't like tissues...I use a hanky whenever possible...they feel better! But thanks just the same! :thumbsup2

Well I would be angry to sit beside a morbidly obese person, an armrest hugger, a loud talker, a smoker that I can still smell smoke on, a wildly sprayed perfume/cologne user, a chatter, a bragger, a booger picker...............but you know I can't request a move from them!

You fly and you you don't want to sit by "certain" types...buy the whole row out....otherwise you..... like I........ am SOL on a commercial flight!

:lmao:
Fortunately for us we do buy 2 rows because there are that many of us. I can tolerate alot but Booger Pickers that I am not directly related to (meaning my kids) would make me move. Otherwise our row would have a booger picker and a puker.:scared:

Um for the record me personally never said he was an idiot or a baby eater so please ease up off my back on that one! I think he made a poor DECISION. I don't think HE is evil or a baby eater or anything else vile you want to portray me as saying. I think his decision was POOR...comprende? I also don't believe *since you are obviously quoting my aids post* that I ever said this girl was going to be scarred for life! Is she ok...yes! Is she home with her family safe and sound? Yes. Was she so deathly ill she needed extra day or 2 in NY??NO Did she die? No Was she diagnosed with Asthma? Have no idea but for now I say no.

As for the aids thing.....I volunteered in an aids clinic...........some of them have quite a nasty cough as well. Just wanted you to know..... oh and for the record don't say I'm anti Aids people, hate sick people, hate the terminally ill.....I DON'T ok? I hate that the pilot made THIS judgment! I'm sure he's a good guy with a family that love him!!!

But not everyone with an uncontrollable cough is contagious. People with asthma, cancer, POD, CHF, and emphysema can all have fits of uncontrollable coughing, and last I knew, none of these were contagious.

Anne

GERD makes you cough. Also post nasal drip. I'm always coughing because I have both.

WHen I travel on a plane I always make sure I have something to suck on and something to drink.

I didn't even quote you, calm down. I'm basically compiling all the hyperbole that been posted by many posters and putting it in my own posts as an observation. I've stated, several times, that the girl's own parents don't even seem all that upset over the incident. I cannot believe how upset you are getting over this issue.

Again, I often have coughing fits caused by pollen this time of year. Not sick. Not contagious. Nothing I can do or take will calm it down - it needs to run its course.

But like I said, if you want to go through the drama and the hassle to change seats because you don't believe me when I turn to you, apologize, and assure you I am in no way contagious then so be it - more room for me to cough comfortably in :thumbsup2

Well you used my aids post in your post...and you've said several times people said he was evil, idiot baby eater *most of which was not true* but anyway...I don't need to calm down as I'm not freaking out! You used my aids analogy in that post...therefore I used it back. I'm not freaked out, I have no reason to calm down as I'm not as upset as you want to portray me...ok? Are we good?

I'm really not upset about most of the issue I'm upset that people think it's ok that a girl got kicked off a plane for a cough. Nothing more....nothing less.

The girls parents were obviously upset enough to let people report it. If they weren't "that" upset why is it news? I've been upset about stuff with my own life and kids that didn't make news. We didn't get on a flight in Orange County based on Delta being jerks...didn't make news, didn't hold a press conference. These people obviously felt compelled in some way to talk about it. So obviously to YOU they aren't "that" upset but they were upset enough to chat it up on tv.

Anyway with that out in the open...are we good? How bout I won't respond "to your" posts on this anymore? Does that work?:confused3

Just 'cuz I think he was a jerk, doesn't mean i am upset!;) I think many behaviors are "jerk-like" and this has been added:wizard: to the list. My opinion. But on the other hand, I would sit by the poor old dead man, too.

I figure you can get germs just as easily from talking, touching, or sneezing as you can from a cough. I'd much rather sit by a sick person than a mean person. :scared: (not insinuating you)

Well you seem pretty upset, what with all those exclamation point and all. ;)

The idea that the girl's parents didn't get all that upset come from their direct quotes in the original article. She said she understand the position that the airlines are in and that it's a double-edged sword.

The only part I made up was the baby eater thing, everything else (idiot, butthead and jerk) are all taken directly from other people's posts. The reaction to it, the name calling, etc.. seems so over the top that I'm finding it kind of funny to watch. I mean...what damage did this girl really suffer?

You can feel free to respond to my posts or not. :)

I have to agree with the pilot on this one!!

DD had some uncontrollable coughing last year................turned out to be whooping cough............something not easily diagnosed but HIGHLY contagious!!!

a ten hour flight, over water with no where to make an emergency landing!!! Keep the girl on the ground where she is safe and if she needed medical attention she could get it.

It is always better on the ground wishing you were in the air then in the air wishing you were on the ground!!!!!

My boys get tickle coughs. Thank goodness it didn't happen on a plane...

I can be mean, though, so it's ok if you insinuate that. ;)

Actually, I hardly ever get sick so I don't care if I sit next to a coughing person or not. I just don't understand why he's a "jerk" The girl herself said she was coughing so hard that she lost her voice, couldn't catch her breath and was in a panic. Seems to me that he was just overly cautious, I doubt it's a character issue on his part.

Well I can seem to be anything from upset to a swimsuit model.......but honestly I am not! I can't help the !!! as I just love them....ok I admit it...I am in love with the !!!!!!! and the BIG letters. :lmao:

I got that too but they DID *there I go with big letters again* hold a press conference which makes me think they were either A) more upset than they said or B) wanted their 5 min of fame. :confused3

Ok well then I take it back *well most of it* does that work? And I still don't think the girl "suffered" but I do think it was a pretty crappy thing to do to a minor girl. I don't think I called anyone a name but if I did I retract it. I don't think the pilot was an idiot, jerk, *****, evil baby eater or any other yucky thing! Just to be clear!

You can feel free to respond to my posts or not. :)
Well most of the time I agree with you...just not on this issue! In fact several posts I have agreed with you on so I'd like to "chat it up" with you but not if it makes me OR you crazy!

  :cloud9: :cloud9:  :cloud9:  :cloud9:

No, never wrote that.

You wrote that a kid suddenly had an asthma attack and died from it. That seemed to imply that you felt that no one with asthma should fly, because they might have an attack in the plane and die. I'm not sure how else to interpret your post in relation to this thread. :confused3

Actually, I like talking to people who sometimes disagree with me, it makes life interesting. It would be SOOOO (big words!!!!!!!) boring is everyone always thought the same thing. :grouphug:
