getting new car. what do you have?

I am getting similar gas mileage as well. I am partial to the Jeep as well since my dad worked for Jeep for 30 yrs. I totally understand the demand part of car, I had been waiting for one to come in in my area because they were in such demand. I finally was able to when I bought mine. I LOVE it so far!!

I'll believe it if the jeep you are mentioning is a diesel. Otherwise, Huh?

Save your money and buy a Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback. Great gas mileage, solid, well-built, tons of room (even plenty of room for adults to sit in the back) and the sticker price will be alot less.

I have a 2013 and it's the best car I have ever owned.

I bought 2009 Scion Xb in 2011 for $15,500. It's the most comfortable car to drive - no wonder, as I chose it when 8 months pregnant. It's a bit smaller, but the gas mileage is excellent, over 30 mpg. I only had one dealer visit in 3.5 years - to change the engine guard underneath, which I managed to partially rip out. Scions are made by Toyota in Japan, and are rated extremely highly on reliability.

Going to go out on a limb here and say that almost everyone who buys a SUV should instead buy a Prius V. Has the same cargo capacity as a Ford Escape, gets fantastic fuel economy and the price is comparable (at least around here) to a SUV with similar options. Only downside is no 4WD or AWD.

I'm going to have to disagree. We own a Prius v and an SUV and they have different jobs. The Prius is my commuting car and my errand car. The SUV tows our trailer (small for brush and whatnot to the leaf dump). We also use it when we have heavy loads to carry. It's more of a work car than the Prius. I also don't know how the Prius will handle the snow in the winter. So if it's not good in that I will be driving the SUV on bad days because that's a beast in the snow.

A Prius would do me no good in the winter. It's very hilly where I live and work. I don't have space to store an extra set of tires either.

And no 4WD or AWD is the dealbreaker for me. I wish Ford still made the hybrid Escape because I want the fuel economy and AWD/4WD. Plus the Escape is nicer looking than the Prius. No offense. :)

Agreed. Ford does have a C-Max now, which is a hybrid (there may even be an all-electric version) and has some similarities to an Escape, but is quite a bit smaller.

I think the good news here is that there are a lot of vehicles in this class out there that are quite good, which is a change from several years ago. Its nice to see a lot of observations on how people are faring with their vehicle, but what you actually like is a very personal decision that you can only experience with research and test drives.

Had this crossover vs wagon discussion just yesterday. Putting the AWD aside, even the space isn't similar in HOW it's laid out. If you've ever had a baby seat in a real truck, you know what a pain it is getting the kid in & out of such a tall vehicle. Likewise, it's a giant pain with a low-slung car.

Crossovers & minivans OTOH, make the task a breeze. And that's just one example of the differences.

I also had a 2008 Rogue. Mechanically, I thought it was fine and I had no problems with it...traded it in at about 85000 miles. My main gripe with it was terrible rear visibility. Backing up was an adventure. I think Rogue was one of the first to go with standard rear cameras, so much of that problem should be resolved. Plus they're on a new redesign as of the previous model year.

I had the exact same issue with my 2010 Rogue. Backing up was downright scary sometimes. No amount of adjusting the mirrors or turning around in my seat seemed to help. The transmission was also a concern after seeing numerous online complaints from others, but I never personally experienced any issues in the three years I had it.

I have a 2011 Rogue with the back up camera and I LOVE it. I'm so used to using it that when I drive another car that doesn't have one I feel lost. I have to admit that while I love my Rogue, now that my son is almost 12 I don't feel like it's big enough for us. When we put him and 2 of his friends in the back seat, they're squashed. I think we're going to go bigger pretty soon. Mechanically, the only issue we've had is one of the nitrogen tires goes low every few months or so, but we just top it off with the free air at the gas station.

I bought a 2014 Ford Escape Titanium this summer and couldn't be happier. I get 25mpg driving through the mountains which is amazing! The cargo area is really spacious and its a comfortable ride. Very happy with my purchase.

I just bought a 2014 Ford Escape Titanium 2 weeks ago. I had it down to the Escape and the Forrester. The Escape won because of the 4 wheel drive. AWD doesn't get up my driveway with 4 inches of snow on it at 2 am when I get home from work.

But I am loving my Escape. Never thought I would buy a car with heated seats - but have to admit I have turned them on a few mornings.

So I went and looked at Subarus on Monday, Ruled out the crosstrek as soon as I moved the driver seat all the way back, there was not enough leg room for my boys. (My DH always puts the seat back as far as it will go and tilts the seat back a notch to drive.) I liked the Forester and the outback both. Loved the ginormous sunroof in the forester. Thought the outback had just a bit smoother ride. SO love all the safety features they have like the 7 airbags. (DH is on extrication team so he cuts a lot of cars apart) I would choose the outback over the forester because of the option of the 75% sensors off of the back tail lights to warn you if someone is in your blind spot or coming up on the side of you when you want to change lanes ect. They didn't have any 15 outbacks in with that technology. He said they would be about 3 months before they got them. I could just special order one and it would take just as long.

Question to everyone.... Is there any other cars out there that has the eyesight technology that Subaru has on their cars. Im going to go to Toyota today and maybe chevy. We don't have a Mazda here in town only those two. So I'd have to wait tell I go back to the city to check out mazda but I do like the looks of them also. Thanks Mum

LOL No thank you. Let me guess, you live in a city where it doesn't snow? If a prius works for you, great. It doesn't for everyone.

I need my vehicle to actually do stuff, not be the poster child for the trendy PC vehicle of the day.

My Escape has that technology. I LOVE it! It has saved me more than once in the last few month.

I had a Jeep Liberty with heated leather seats and after it was totaled last year, I replaced it with an old Escape with no options. Let me tell you, after a Colorado winter, I missed my heated leather seats and remote start! This winter should be so much nicer than last year. :)

I have these options on my Cherokee, along with a heated steering wheel and I agree that I love them. Last winter was the first I had this as my previous Envoy was very basic and I was glad to have them with the winter we had last year.

My Ford Escape does. I have the back up camera. This system sounds an
audible warning tone if there is an obstacle near the vehicle’s front or rear
bumpers. As the vehicle moves closer to the obstacle, the rate of the
warning tone increases in frequency. The front sensors are automatically
activated when the vehicle is in drive (D) and the vehicle speed is below
6 mph (10 km/h). The system will detect objects up to 27 inches (70 centimeters) away from the front of the vehicle and about 14 inches (35 centimeters) to the side of the front end. The rear sensors are active
only when the vehicle is in reverse (R), and will detect objects up to 6 feet
(1.8 meter) away, with decreased coverage at the outer corners of the
bumper).

It also has park assist. (the car control the wheel for parallel parking - you still press the gas/brake).

Have you checked out the Honda Accord Crosstour? We almost got one but decided our family wasn't quite there yet in terms of downsizing. Awesome ride!
