Getting near the HH at Old Key West?

Ok, so I would only stay at Old Key West if I could stay in a building that was close to the HH. Now, how easy is that to book at 7 months out? Say during the first 8-9 months of the year. Or do you generally have to own there in order to get a studio near the HH? This could be a perk that might push me more towards a OKW resale.

Well, in truth, the Near HH designation is nice, but there are also buildings NOT in that booking category that are nearly as convenient. It was not available for my upcoming trip (in a 1 bedroom). I booked late, even though I own DVC. But bldgs 62, 63 and 64, bldg 16 and bldgs 27 to 29 are really just about as close. If being close to HH is important, but you can't bet that category...have Member Services make it as a request to be as close as possible to HH.

Otherwise, ANY bus heading to the parks stops last at HH, so you can bus up there, and bus back by walking across the bridge and hopping on a park bus at the Peninsular Road stop (the first stop).

It would be that important to me. I don't mind a short walk to the main facility but Old Key West has some marathon length walks within their resort. :teeth:. So you know, having that ability to get near the HH during visits that I would stay there, could possibly make Old Key West my home resort.

But I do admit I love the look of SSR a lot more and they have lower dues.

I had no idea you could book near HH, so when it came up as an option I was presently surprised!

As well as the 23 thru 26 loop. Bldg 27 is a great choice if you can't get HH. It's right there at the first bus stop on Peninsular Road.

Plus you can always hop any bus from where your villa is located and get off at the HH. When you want to go back, walk over to Peninsular Road bus stop and grab any bus from that spot. Or walk, it's only about ten minutes to walk from the furthest location to the HH. Just stay on the sidewalks (they cross the road at some locations).

And, OP, near HH isn't always available at seven months out.

Right, I was thinking that most of the time you would need that home resort advantage to book near the HH. Am I wrong in this thinking?

Yes, you probably need to book it at eleven months out.

I booked a studio near the HH for May 1-7 recently. It was October 4th when I made the reservation, so a few days past the 7-month mark. I needed the reservation for the 1st - the 8th so I booked a regular studio for the 8th and wait listed near HH. My wait list came through in under 24 hours.

Early May is not a busy time.

Buildings 11 - 14 are the ones designated as "near Hospitality House".

Thank you. We were in 24 this year and it was absolutely perfect (on a cash stay), so I was pleased when booking our first DVC stay that near HH was an option :-)

Interesting. We just got back from an OKW stay, and had booked near HH. Our 1BR villa was in building 64. We loved the location, as it was an easy walk to both the HH and the Peninsular Road stop. Didn't realize that building is not officially near HH - it was plenty close for us!

THe longest walk, from building 50, to HH is about 2/3 of a mile, or about 1/2 the distance around EPCOT's World Showcase Promenade.

I was just trying to be funny with the marathon reference.

I just checked the RAT and there's full availability for a 1 BR near the HH for the first week in May, 6 months out. There's partial availability for a studio or 2 BR for that week, again at 6 months out, suggesting that 11 months isn't always necessary.

I am sure there are going to be some exceptions. But we will want a studio. But it may be the HH advantage that pushes me to OKW vs. SSR. But I really love the look and the low dues of SSR.

Might be hard to find a 2057 OKW resale to compare with a 2054 SSR contract.
