Hi!

I am new to photography. It's always been something I was interested in, but I am about to dive in headfirst. Luckily, the pictures I have taken all turned out really nice, so I'm not worried TOO much about that.My library is holding a photo essay workshop, the theme being "Your Real Life." So far, I've got a topic, a camera--and absolutely no subject ideas whatsoever! So, does anyone have any ideas?

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew about development prices for CVS or Walgreens.

Thanks!!!! :goodvibes

Easier with digital, but basically shoot everything you see on a typical day, your toothbrush, your coffee pot, your car, your kids etc.... Shoot a picture of the newpaper with the date, kind of like the hostage photos... and put together a this was your day scrapbook.

Hostage photos????? :rotfl2: What is THAT????

Ok, thanks for the ideas, MM....anyone else?

Still looking for prices....

Thanks!

I think they call the proof of life photos, they hold up the current days paper, showing the date ect with the person. That way they can prove the person was alive on that specific date.

I would think of all of the discrete scenes in your day and think of how to represent the mood and reality of each one with a picture.

For me, I'd start with a dimly lit photo of me waking up in bed. I'd follow it with a photo of me eating breakfast (typically pizza) at my computer. I'd follow that with a shot of me in the bathroom using one of my morning implements (toothbrush, razor, floss, comb) and the others in view.

I'd add a shot of me getting into the car. Then another of me sitting down in my office. A good meeting shot. A shot of me eating a bag of popcorn at my desk for lunch. A shot of me walking into the parking garage.

A shot of the kids and wife greeting me when I get home. A shot of me playing with the boys. A shot of us having dinner. A shot of me on the laptop on the couch while the boys play video games. A shot of me reading to the boys in bed. A shot of me back on the computer. A shot of me asleep in bed.

That, as pathetic as it may sound, represents a typical day in my life.

I'm actually working on a similar project in video. I'm planning to do a video "day-in-the-life" for each person in the family. It's basically the same thing except that it's video instead of pictures, there's sound, and there will be narration.

If that's pathetic, then we're ALL pathetic....... LOL :rotfl2:

Take a different spin and perspective of the above ideas. Try getting a tilted angle or a series of the above subjects with a small depth of field with some nice bokeh. That might strike the judges interest more than the "normal" shots.
