Getting into the parks as a CP

My room mates and I all finished Traditions yesterday and we given our blue ID cards. Yesterday, I was told it would take 24 hours for everything to be activated and so we would not be allowed in the parks until the following day (today). However, when trying to enter the parks today, I was then told that once I receive my main gate pass I would use this to enter the park. Am I, at that point, using up the free passes that, at least use to be, intended for friends and family?
My room mate was told today that they stopped giving free access to the parks for CPs this year, and of course we hope this isn't true, and I'm sure Disney will have many angry college students if that were to happen. I'm just trying to confirm how the system works, especially if someone knows how the system currently works.TIA!!!

The Maingate is used for both. However, it doesn't use up the guest passes when you use it for yourself

But doesn't that take a couple weeks? I have heard of CPs getting into the parks sooner than that

The main gate system that was implemented when i was there worked like this: you get a pack of cards in the mail. There is one main card that you use to get yourself into the parks, and then each guest that you bring into the park has their own individual card. So no, using the main card doesn't use up guest visits

All CMs get free access to the parks. We didn't get our maingate passes until the middle of the Fall on my program therefore we used our Blue IDs until that point. You will have your own maingate and then extra cards which are your passes for your friends and families, so as long as you use your own card it will not affect those. And unless you are getting those today or tomorrow you should be able to get in with your Blue IDs until they arrive.

And the whole not getting in for free doesn't make any sense, I had friends getting in yesterday and that's a perk of working there. Good luck!
