Getting Injured at Disney

As a person involved in the field, was wondering if anyone had to seek medical attention when at Disney or in Orlando area in general.

What was your experience ?

My experience thus far has been very mixed at best

Both of my daughters need medical attention on our last trip - one had an eye problem and the other an ear problem. Result of swimming and probably just being around 1,000s of other kids. We used the medical service that the WDW resort desk recommended that actually come to your resort room. It was great. If took about an hour each time for the doc to show up which was not bad at all. We had to pay up front and then claim through insurance later, but it was awesome having them come to the room. It made our lives much easier. They even had most of the right meds with them when they arrived and for the one item they did not have they called the pharmacy and it was delivered to our resort later in the day. I was very impressed with how well thought out and helpful both the resort and the medical service were when it came to kids getting those sort of typical vacation things.

What do you do for a profession? Sorry, I know it doesn't answer your question.

Wow that's pretty nice

Did your insurance give you a hard time ?

I haven't seen too many urgent cares in the area.

My sister had chest pains at our resort. She went to the front desk to inquire about medical care, and they called an ambulance straight away. This was the first night of a stay, and as we had added that night on to an existing reservation it was an upgrade from the room type we had booked for the rest of the trip. Disney let us stay in those rooms (we had 2) for our whole stay. They also called a couple days later to see how she was doing and if there was anything we needed. Disney was great, imho.

In 2002 or 2004 my DH had a blocked ear after a day in the wave pool at TL. At about 9 or 10 o'clock at night we drove over to the Centracare near the Downtown Disney hotels and they flushed his ear. I don't remember if they took our insurance or we just had to pay out of pocket, it wasn't that much.

Do u remember what hospital they took her to? I see there a few in the area like celebration hospital. I was wondering the level of care they are , like if they are a stroke center

There are at least 2 that border Disney property. One on 535 at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd across from Crossroads and one on 192 West at Orange Lake. I think there might also be one in Celebration but I'm not sure about that. Some of the local CVS and Walgreen's locations also have walk-in clinics for simple stuff.

ETA: There's also an urgent care at the corner of World Center Drive and 535 across from the Buena Vista Suites.

What type of doctor are you?

That's cool. I'm a neuroscientist, what's your specialty?

As for the stroke center status, that's easily Google-able. Here's a list of every one in the U.S. Sorted by state: http://www.npr.org/2009/12/11/121051484/find-a-certified-u-s-stroke-center-near-you

ER

What's the quality of healthcare in the Orlando area ?

I notice a lot of people fly back to New York and philly for their care

Hi Cindy there are many places that may refer to themselves as stroke centers but I think ORMC is the only one capable of intervention, may places have tele neurologist and push TPA so they call themselves stroke centers
