How old were you when you started going gray? I'm female and 36 and have started to notice several gray hairs around my temple! I feel like I'm too young for this! I did have a very stressful year last year with a military deployment to Iraq in my family and I'm wondering if this is why I'm going gray. I don't know when my mom started to go gray, because she dyed her hair starting in her late 20's! I have an appointment next week to get my hair colored. I'm not ready for gray hair.

hehe you're too young....I started getting gray hair 2 years ago! I am only 23!

My brother had a Grey streak since he was 15 .I bet he would like it back as his hair receded so bad it took all his grey out.

I myself ( 40 ) have really seen them comeing in .Now if I was a Vain person I would go downstairs and demand DM open the shop and DO THE DYE. Nice benifit of living over a salon.

Funny you write this - I have a hair appt. tomorrow at 8am. I've been coloring for several years. My advice: Find a good colorist!! I started with shading (washes out eventually), but now have to do coloring. She doesn't 'dye' all my hair, just applies the color to my roots in layers. My hair is black and I don't want it to look like coal. She actually adds red to my color to give it a little dimension and it almost looks like I have hi-lights.

Have fun!!!

Its no big deal. I started getting grey hair when I was 15. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough to notice. I still dont have a lot of grey, but you can tell I have it. When I was younger it bothered me and I would color my hair. Then I went through a period of not caring. Now that Im getting older and no longer in my 20's, I dont want the grey to show so I am back to coloring it again. People who haven't always known me dont think I have any grey. And are surprised when I tell them I have had it for the last 15 years. Ask the sweetpea though, she thinks I have pretty hair, no matter how many little grey ones there are.

at least I'm not the only one flipping out about this. I'm a 36 year old guy and I found my first one on my arm a couple of days ago. I don't like it one bit.

Dont worry about the arms ones. Wait till they start sprouting from your ears. Thats when you know you hit "old man" age.

I was dirty blonde since I was born until I had cancer. I lost all my hair with chemo and when it came back it came in dark grey with some white patches.
I waited till it was at least 1 inch long. I am blonde again now thanks to Miss Clairol or Loreal, or someone. I am tempted to let it grow out now to see what color it is now but I am afraid the grey is permanent now so I will continue the dye every 6 weeks just in case. 51 is to young for grey too. Peggie

:rotfl2: This is funny. I am noticing a few here and there and I am 34. DH is getting some too and he's only a year older. Luckily in the pics I just posted on another thread you can't tell cause it mixes with the blonde. I think the minute someone notices I will be running to the hair salon!! :goodvibes

I got my first grays when I was 13. I have a patch of about 5 of them on the back of my head. Never got anymore until a couple of weeks ago when I noticed my first "real" gray hair. I'm 27.

Too young???? :lmao: :lmao: I was 19. Hmmmmmmm that was the same year I married my ex.
Doesnt it stink, women start to go gray and we panic but men start to look distinguished with that sprinkling of gray :confused3 .

oh man....now I am going to start to panic...I didn't think gray hair started so young on females!! I am going to be 43 and haven't had one yet but I guess it will start soon!

I'm 37 and I have gray hairs. I hide the grays by highlighting my hair. Once the highlighting doesn't do enough to hide the grays, then I'll start to color my hair. The highlighting is easier to maintain than a full color job because the roots aren't as noticable.

Gray you say! I started to get them at 14! I remember being in gymnastics class and spotting the first one. Its more genetic though-I never had a fair chance. My grandmother, mother and now myself grayed at an early age. I have to get my hair colored every four weeks. The older I get the more that seem to be creeping in. At my next hair appointment we are going to lighten my hair about two levels. My hair is so dark the gray literally glows when growing out. A few levels lighter and some highlights should work. I have been coloring my hair for so long I have no idea what it would look like naturally. :scratchin

I found five last year when I was 30. I yanked those suckers out. But one appeared today. :( It's not there now. :rolleyes1

There are worse places to find gray hairs. ::yes::

I started getting gray hair in my 20's. I'm 47 now, and I'd have a head full of gray hair if I didn't dye it. My grandmother was completely gray by her late 20's. My sister is in her 50's and doesn't have gray hair. :confused3

Sorry sweetie, but I don't have much sympathy for you. I'm 27 and already have a BUNCH of gray hair.

Well, I got my first in the eighth grade, as did my oldest daughter. However, my youngest daughter beat us both. She is twelve and in the seventh grade, and has found several. Not really a big deal cosmetically, as you can color your hair. What concerns me is I seem to recall a study a few years ago that said early graying may be an indication of an increased chance of heart problems later in life. :( Well, at least I haven't heard anything about big feet being a sign of anything bad in our future. Yup, we all have HUGE feet, too! :rotfl:
