Getting from the Cruise Port (San Pedro) to DLR - Has anyone tried this?

So my planned Septermber trip is now looking to be in flux, as I just found out that now the other people I was supposed to go with have decided that they now want to go on Labor Day weekend, which just doesn't sound like much fun. This means that it is entirely possible that I might be passing on that one, and possibly doing a solo trip on the weekend I originally planned on (September 23/25) with a catch: I might end up traveling down by cruise ship rather than by plane.

It turns out that the timing of the originally planned dates would match just about perfectly with a 5-day repositioning cruise on the Sapphire Princess that is going from Vancouver to LA with stops in Victoria and San Francisco along the way. It's still far too soon to start making any definite plans (especially with another potential monkey wrench or two that could get tossed into the works and torpedo the whole thing anyway) but I'd be interested to know if anyone knows of any good options for getting from the cruise port at San Pedro to a Disneyland area hotel. I suppose if nothing else I could probably find a shuttle to one of the airports and take another shuttle from there, but if there's some more direct way, I'd be interested to find out about it.

I don't think you shuttle to airpot to DL is a bad idea. But go port to LGB(longbeach) to DL to save time.

But this question is much better placed on the DCL board. Now that Disney is scheduling more west coast cruises this is a more common topic. I would title it something like "San Pedro Port to Disneyland transportation"

I agree with skiingfast that you will get some good information on the cruise section of this board. Also, here's a link that might be helpful.
You won't have to go from the port to the airport and then to DLR. You can get direct transportation from the port to DLR. I can't remember exactly what shuttle companies they are, but there are shuttles that you can take. I think Super Shuttle and Prime Time shuttle are 2 that do this.

I didn't think to try thr DCL board because I would be on a Princess ship rather than a Disney ship, but I'll go check over there and see what I can figure out. I imagine the transportation options would be similar for both.

After our cruise, DCL had transfer service (buses) from the ship to the hotels (as well as LAX.) It cost $35. per person.

oops just double-checked that you're doing Princess. We also sailed with RCCL and arranged for car service from San Pedro to Disneyland. It was about the same as a taxi for the two of us. There were all kinds of cabs lined up and waiting as passengers left the ship. The car service was nice but we had to pre-arrange it and time our disembarkation to when the car was scheduled. Then stood around because we got off several mins early. It would have been simpler to just grab a taxi.

It's pretty standard for the cruise lines to offer transfers to and from airports on embarkation and disembarkation (on the recent Princess cruise I took they also offered some shore excursions on disembarkation that end at the airport, so people with later flights out have something better to do than wait at the airport) but I imagine DCL would be the only one offering transfers directly to Disneyland. I also believe the transfers on Princess operate in conjunction with their EZ-Check service where your bags go directly from the ship to the baggage check at the airport without you needing to claim it after disembarkation.

I suppose it's possible that Princess could offer a disembarkation tour to Disneyland (it looks like they have one that goes to Universal Studios) but it doesn't look too likely that it would be an option for this trip. I'm thinking it might be best to just get to an airport and rent a car from there.

I had asked this question on the DCL board and basically hit a wall with no help. I need this info also. We are sailing on DCL next Sept out of San Pedro. We'll stay at VGC before the cruise so feel pretty good about getting to the dock. It's when we get off the ship that I run into trouble. Our train doesn't leave until 6-7 pm, depending on where we get on, and I just don't know what to do all day. Main problem is the luggage..can't very well drag it around while we do some sightseeing thing..I was thinking about taking a transfer back to DLR for the day, but again, what about the luggage?? Then I thought I could just rent a car from Alamo and leave it in the lot with luggage locked inside, but that seems kinda extreme. Any thoughts from locals on how to work around this?

I work on an NCL ship, and am in San Pedro every Saturday.
The taxi stand has Disneyland as one of the 'fixed fare' options, but I can't recall exactly how much it is offhand - but it would be a lot faster and probably no more expensive than getting a shuttle to the airport and another shuttle to Disneyland from the airport.
The taxi stand is right outside the Sapphire's terminal, so you wouldn't need to go far to get to it.
