If I use the boat to get from S/D to Epcot Int'l Gateway, will I be too far from the futureworld attrations to get a decent spot in the early morning lines? I know it will be packed since I'll be there holiday week. Should I just walk instead? How long will it take to walk?

I've read I can also walk to MGM, but it must be far because it is mentioned only infrequently. How long is that walk? Is the boat alot quicker?

The walk to MGM is a long walk, and you still have to get to the entrance. We stayed at the Boardwalk twice and did both walks, for Epcot, I would just walk to because theremight be a lot of people boarding the boat. But to MGM if you don't mind walking, a long walk, then walk it if you do then take the boat.

We stayed at the Dolphin last year and did both walks. The walk to EPCOT takes 5-10 minutes. The walk to MGM takes about 15-20 minutes. My son, who hates to wait, walked back from MGM while we took the boat. He was waiting for us when we docked. Gave us a hard time too! :earboy2:

Going to Epcot from the Dolphin, walking is faster. Taking the boat, you have to make stops at BW and YC/BC before stopping at Epcot.

When you get to Epcot, yes, you will be held behind the turnstiles until 9am. Yes, people heading from the front of Epcot will be at the rides before you, but you'll have a fairly short wait.

When we went this June, we started out from the back at 9am and got to Soarin' about 9:05am. Standby line was 5 minutes, and fastpasses were for 10:40am. By the time we came out of Soarin' the standby line was at 15minutes and FPs were for 11:20am.

Going to MGM, I thought it was easier to take the boat, because Dolphin is the last to be picked up, so there aren't any more stops after S/D. It was probably 10mins boat ride to the dock. Distance from the dock to front gate vs bus stop to front gate is fairly equal so you're OK there.

If Dolphin is the last to be picked, I wonder if up will some boats just pass us by as they will already be full? We will be there July 4th (I know I am nuts  for settling for that week!)

you'll probably have to stand, but since it's only 10minutes, it really isn't that bad, I've never seen the boats packed to the max except after park closing.

Unless you have little ones without strollers, I would recommend walking to both. The boats are slow and have the aroma of gasoline. There is a walkway to both Epcot and MGM and if you leave so you are there a bit before nine, you should be able to get on the rides early. When you enter the International Gateway at Epcot, you walk thru England and Canada to get over to FW and it is not a long walk.
